For awhile now a bunch of friends have been pushing me to do a custom turbo setup. I have a shop with tools and a good group of people who know what there doing. So this is me considering it. There’s a back order waiting list for blowers for the SDS kit and this is the only other option till then. Plus I expect to pay allot less money for my own custom setup. An eBay piping kit with all the toys is $800-$1000 and that will give me all the little shit so i can worry more on the bigger stuff. Plus i can just take my time after the install upgrading everything to something a little more worthy anyways. I'm not saying I’m gona do it but i am starting to look into it.
Got a few questions already! And wanta hear what people think.
Turbo Manifolds... I've looked at allot of pics and was just wandering if anyone knows if the 6G72 has the same bolt pattern as the 6G75? It looks the same but i'm not sure. They don't make allot of manifolds for the 3G Eclipse but they sure do for the 3000GT. So this might be an option pending the size and angle. That and I’ve heard that RRE will make a set on request so i might give them a call about it too. If nothing else i have my stock headers and i can cut them up and weld me up a custom manifold. It pays to know how to weld and such.
Single or Twin... Putting a single turbo on a V6 or V8 has never felt right to me but it can be done. But in order to do it you gona do some crazy looping to mount the turbo after the headers join and then bring the piping back into the engine bay. Its a tight fit down there now and i'm not sure if there’s room for another pipe. But if you go twin you can keep the turbo’s close and just send the exhaust out together in theory. I'd like to do a twin setup but engine bay space my become a factor. So what are your thoughts? If you could just mount the turbo on the front bank header and not on the rear this would be pretty easy. But that would be one fucked up back pressure loop. LOL
So what do you guys think? How would you do it? And what have you discovered in your research. Post away... its not like we have anything better to talk about. LOL
