I'm new to this and this is probably a dumb question.

So I have a 2012 gs and I've been looking for some things to do to it justhat to add a little more pep. Before everyone jumps down my throat is know I shouldve just bought a GT but at the time I couldn't find one for a price I was comfortable with at that time. Now, I'm sure someone on this forum has seen Austin Thorton's the turbo GS. I personally think it's a little risky running that with stock internals but his buold looks pretty sick.

I have heard about this electric turbo (not those shitty fans on ebay) made by Phantom I think. From what I understand its and electronic turbo that puts out about 5 psi of boost. The thing is its made for the FRS. It seems like just a battery swap and some wireing. Do you think i could make it work for my GS?

Welcome to Club4g Mike

I'd be a little skeptical about things like that. How much more pep are you hoping to get? It'd take some serious work to bring a GS to GT levels, but with some modest bolt-ons and a tune, you'll be able to scoot around a little harder (figure ~175whp)

This is one of the chargers I was referring to. It seems pretty simple. I'm not sure how customizable it is tho.

Tristen story

First off I would like to say welcome to the club Mike!

I too was in your shoes not long ago. My first car was a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS. As all Eclipse owners know, the 4G's are exotic looking (hence why we bought our cars). But when it came to pulling up at the red light, the GS falls short. I was a bit upset and discouraged at first so I started to mod a little. I installed a SRI and played with the exhaust a little to free up the air flow, yet still my little 4 cylinder just couldn't pull as hard as others. There is not much you can do to the GS if you plan to race. Yes you can do a considerable amount of mods and get a little bit of the "pushed back into your seat" feeling, but nothing that's gonna make you smile like a GT would. I soon sold my GS and bought a 08 GT/SE with the 6 speed manual trans. Me and the 6g75 guys know theres a little bit less mods out there for us than the GS guys, but the "GAINS BRO!!!!"

The best bang for your buck is to get a ECU reflash but a gentleman named Michael, AKA "Hackish"

If you want more umpfff do a full 2.5 inch exhaust with RRE headers, CAI, and a RRE under pully. (((DO ALL YOUR MODS BEFORE GETTING A REFLASH FOR LIVE TUNING)))

Sorry if this discourages anyone. I'm just sharing my personal experience. PM me if you have any questions that you may have. I'd be glad to help! Good luck

It'd go great with your eBay exhaust!

This man speaks the truth. I've never driven a GS, but I have built up a similarly powered 4 banger. I was very proud of that car, but when I got my GT, there was no comparison. It blew the four pot out of the water, even as stock. If power/performance is what you really want, you may be disappointed by modding a GS. If you're prepared for paying a little more at the pumps and struggling with an even weaker aftermarket, perhaps a GT is for you.

escapefate will become famous soon enough
Turbo fans are made in a specific way that prevents air from bleeding back through the fan once it is pressurized.

This is why most e-bay fan turbos only make 1psi if that. I am curious how much psi can be made when the device is made correctly.

I couldn't agree more with Tristen's suggestions. I had done quite a bit to my GS before I switched over insofar as bolt ons go. That under pulley will make a big difference with getting you through your lower RPM range to your power band much faster - it's wild to feel the difference in dead weight between stock and the RRE pulley, let alone with centripetal force multiplying it.

The Hackish reflash is also a great investment, it really just depends on how far you want to go with it. Fortunately for the GS, the engine is extremely easy to work on, loads of space!
