Track Ready 4g?

Hey so I race at my local track with my mitsubishi evo, that ive converted from a somewhat daily driver into a track only car. A friend owed me some money and he payed back some of it by giving me a 2006 GS. And obviously me being me, I want to know if it would be viable to use it on a track? Obviously I would completly strip it, add a role cage, racing seats, New intake, headers, turbo, wheels, suspension, strut bars. The works. I heard this car can be used in the track, but I thought i'd ask you guys first.

Any car can be tracked. If you want it to be fast, get ready to put in some serious work/cash. GSs are not known to be particularly quick.

If you've converted your Evo into a track only car and are looking for a competent daily, I think you just found it lol

Welcome to the club

+1 to Marty. The GS is not the fastest car on the block, and it takes a ton of money and work to get it up to GT standards, and neither will be even close to your evo. I think its an EXCELLENT daily driver, though. The 4G69 is a super reliable engine that will last you forever, but I'm not sure it will be much of a decent track car. As well, our after market is next to nothing, so you'd have a hell of a time upgrading everything. There is no turbo kit, so you'd have to fabricate one yourself. Only one manufacturer makes headers, but they're shorties and extremely expensive. I'm not even sure anyone makes roll cages for our car anymore.

That being said, I have heard the GS has a better weight distribution than the GT and can handle corners better, but I'm unsure about that exactly as I don't own a GS.

Don't forget a new timing belt if it's original, unless you want to have an excuse to do an engine rebuild lol.

You've probably got a better daily driver in your hands than a track car

Rob from Robispec, who I used to work with, was telling me about how Buschur's 4G Eclipse GT made 2nd place in whatever FWD league they were racing with. The GT would have made 1st if it wasn't for a point deducted for a technicality. Just in case you don't know who Buschur (Dave Buschur/Buschur Racing) is, google him/them.

Here is an evom link to the car Buschur Racing's 4G Eclipse - evolutionm.net. The pictures aren't there anymore but there are a good amount of modifications listed here.

The take home message for your GS is that your suspension and handling can be tuned very effectively so pick a course with fewer straightaways.

I autocross my GS in the SCCA STS class and have a blast doing so. It's not the fastest car but I haven't had to shell out the same cash as the guys with modded STi's or 600HP Corvette C5's.
