another MPG thread

2.4L

MPG: Up to 20 city / 28 highway

I am getting 18-19 consistently with my MPG app. I do a lot of city driving and when I drive the interstate its for about 20 miles and I am running 80MPH so the RPMs are a little high.

Do you think the interstate RPMs are killing my MPG? I dont redline the thing but I am letting the tranny shift around 3K rpms.

Also with the cooler weather I was expecting better numbers....

I dont think my tires are that big of a factor I have the General G Max. Also I have the 18in rims soooo thats a SMALL factor.

Real world numbers for this car are.

EPA: 20 combined. City MPG:17. Highway MPG:25

Self Reported: 18 - 27 combined, many reported in the low 20s

http://www.fuelly.com/car/mitsubishi/eclipse/2008

This week I am being super careful about driving with a light foot and we will see how much different it is for me. I will report back to you in few days. I am going to work here in a min and that will be 20 interstate mile for the day. I am going to drive 70 instead of 80.

Also going to recheck my tire pressure.

City driving is whats gonna kill your mpg. I drive the canyons to work about 45 miles from where I live. I keep the rpms in the 2k-3k range and get up to 70 at max and I get somewhere from 22-24 mpg depending if I drove my car in the city that week. Which looking at numbers before on other threads seems to be the norm for the GS.

55mph I get about 34mpg, 80mph I get about 20mpg. Speed just wrecks my economy.

Super light foot and pissing off traffic behind me, I've managed 43mpg city. I've definitely not been a model of fuel economy on my current tank of gas, but I'm sitting around 25mpg with it, mixed city and highway... And having fun. It could definitely be higher.

Have you seen a significant difference with hakish tune? I know the tune says that your fuel economy will go up but I haven't seen anyone ever make a clame of a difference before and after.

I can get my tools out, find a section of road, and use the OBD info to compare approximate MPG readouts going down the road at the same speed in the same direction. Do a couple runs with, and a couple without...

What I do know is that I run about 0.4 seconds faster on a quarter mile. The biggest fuel economy gain for me was losing all my cats and having a long tube header instead

I shift at 1500-2000 rpm. The 5 speed manual has the shortest top gear of any of the Eclipse, so on the highway I'll sit around 3500-4k rpm

Still gotta get my OBD tool off a friend

I short shift in city driving, usually upshift around 2000 rpm. Set the cruise on the highway at 110 km/h (68 MPH) and I'm spinning @ 2100 in 6th.

Fuel economy is supposed to be better with Hackish's tune, but I haven't really been paying attention to that if I'm totally honest

I need to follow your example. Part of the reason why my fuel economy isn't great is that I tend to run about 80 mph/129 kph on the highway, which spins the engine around 2600-2700 rpm, and sucks up precious premium. Also, while I try to short shift, one of the reasons for owning a GT is that the engine sounds darn good when you let it spin up a bit. I'm going to make an effort to be a good boy this week, and see what kind of mileage I get.

I already failed. Was boxed in behind some chuckleheads doing 62 in a 65. Had to squirt into an opening in the left lane or risk being trapped there for another mile, so I downshifted to third and gave her a bootful.

prior my michellen super sport tires i was on fire stones fuel fighter and cheaper toyo tires i was getting 320+ MPG, but as soon as i installed the super sports it dropped to 250.

Now that i have injen cai and hackish tune im currently at 270 with 1/4 tank left. But i dont know cause i been having a heavy foot on this tank ever since i got both of them installed so i might been able to get more

I got 365 miles on my last 13.4 gallons. 27mpg, and the last quarter of the tank was beaten on pretty hard. 35mpg roughly on the first 3/4.

Thats good, just came with my final numbers and i got 312mpg with the gas light on with a hackish tune and injen cai on a 14.5 gallons. So about 18% increase in mpg, and i been flooring everyday to class or work to hear that cai lol

You're not getting 312mpg, I'm sorry, but no way. Where are you getting this information from? You would have to be going 4524 miles on your 14.5 gallons to get 312mpg. The car is rated for 27mpg highway when stock, modded it'll do a bit better but not a gain of 30,000%

Uhh huuu.... hmmmm... I hear you...that's cute...I seriously wish I could get around 24MPG like I use to get in my GS. I'm currently getting an average of 17MPG in the GT but then again, I get easily angered by other peoples slow ass driving and I start shifting through those gears. Plus on average I run close to 125MPH at least twice a week. Moral of all my babble talk is that if you bought a sports car...get REAL!!! Drive that shit like a sports car.

I think theirs a misunderstanding, or you got our measurement wrong since you're from london and u guys use a different measurement or something, 27mpg = 1 gallon here. Sorry for the confusion not enough rest on final weeks of the semester

I got actually 315mpg when i refilled the recite said it filled 13.5 gallons so, 315mpg/13.5gallons = 23.3 mpg, but thats me always flooring it when merging on the highway everyday We are also having alot of construction done currently on the road so theres been alot of traffic too.

MPG stands for miles per gallon. [Miles Driven/Gallons used].

I believe you are mistaking 315mpg to actually be 315 miles traveled on 13.5 gallons. Unless you use some whacky non imperial system.

Otherwise, how does 27 miles per gallon equal 1 gallon. Where are you coming up with that number from? I think you need some more rest

"how does 27 miles per gallon equal 1 gallon."

its the system we use in USA.... look it up. I use my cars Trip A and Trip B measurement to figure that out after refilling than resetting that. Its pretty self explanatory i.e. per gallon.

But in correction from the last post it was 315 miles for 13.5 gallons.

Well, I can't quite beat 315 MPG , but I did just get 23.8 in mixed driving on my last tank, which isn't too bad for a GT.

I understand what miles are, what gallons are, and how to calculate miles per gallon. We do it here in Canada all the time because of Americans using US imperial.

Here's your last one:

If you meant you got 312 MILES when the gas light came on, sure. But you were not getting 312mpg on that tank of gas until the light came on. That would mean you got 4524 miles on that tank, as it would be 312 miles PER GALLON, and 14.5 gallons, thus 312*14.5 = 4524.

If this isn't clear enough, I'm dropping it because it's really not worth any more effort explaining the difference between mpg (miles/gallon) and miles. There's a reason you're the only one giving MPG figures in the hundreds

It was just a mistaken typo you could see "on a 14.5 gallons" no need to make mountains out of mole hills and i already corrected myself next post.

I have never claimed 315*14.5 = 4524 that was you, I said "315mpg/13.5gallons = 23.3 mpg" which shouldve been 315 miles mistake on that part though.

Sabertooth^2 has a spectacular aura about
"27mpg = 1 gallon here"
"I got actually 315mpg"

"its the system we use in USA.... look it up"

The mountains are on you bud. Check your mistakes before calling someone out. Now can we end this shitfest?
