now if you ask me thats a dumb idea if ever there was one. i see it this way, in the past few years the evo's main competition was the wrx, and while the evo did succeed in spanking the wrx on quite a few instances, if mitsu would have put an awd eclipse in the linup too then they would have completely cornered the market for compact awd sport coupes. 2 on 1 always nets a bigger ass whoopin than 1 on 1.
Another reason they didnt add the awd is the eclipse had the potential to outshine the evo. most will agree that the eclipse styling is much better than the evos but the evo has a far greater edge performance wise. if that edge was taken away then the eclipse would be the victor but it would completely defeat the purpose of bringing the evo to the states in the first place.

My 2 cents:
Look at subaru, they have ALLLLLL AWD vehicles. Each car is made with a specific market in mind. I duno if an AWD eclipse would outshine the EVO. I really DONT. If anything it'd end up in competition with the likes of the WRX.
Some people may say they like the Eclipse styling better, over the Evo, some may say vice versa. It's alllllllll dependent on each person own opinion. You can't speak for the whole world ya know.
In my personal opinion I LOVE the Eclipses styling and I get compliments on my 09 ALLLLL the time. I had an 06 but wanted the sun and sound package so I got my 09. The styling actually grew on me because at first I wasn't a fan, but as I saw it more and more I loved it more and more.
Some may argue that the Evo is too boxy for them.
It depends on what YOU WANT. Do you want a boxy/RALLY INSPIRED car that will HAUL ASS????? Or do you want a sleek, curvy, sexy car that would haul ass (if it had AWD)......
Some may pick the boxy/rally inspired car BECAUSE they like the rally inspired look (not to mention the background of rally racing behind it)..... some may like the sleek, curvy look better and pick that.
In my opinion I think the two cars appeal to two different groups of people. I like BOTH cars. Evo and Eclipse. I like the Eclipses styling better, but I LOVE the Evos performance better (respectively).... EVEN if the eclipse was lightened up, and had the AWD added I dont think it would be in competition with the EVO at ALLLL. The Evo is up against cars like the STi, g35x and s4. If the Eclipse had AWD it'd be more in a group like the WRX. Right now there's really nothing else up against the WRX. It's in a league all it's own and I think Mitsu should take a shot at that league with an AWD Eclipse......
