3CL1PS3 has a spectacular aura about
fuel map/map load

today ive been checking out my maps on the fic software and i was able to get the idle fixed by changing the voltage on MAF map to 1.68 but as im experimenting with the fuel map and changing values its not having any luck and have a couple questions.
1. is .8 the minimum increase for the cells. if i try to add anything lower than +.5(0.8) it goes right to 0.8
2. the cars "load" stays in the 15&12.5 rows. what are the others there for?

3. i tried to add +.5 fuel in the 3400-5950rpm range and it ran really choppy like when i would let off the gas or let it stay in gear for too long. why is that?
4. on the x-axis of fuel map what should the rpm numbers read from where to where. like start at 4000 and end at 6300? or do i need it to read from idle to redline.
thank you in advance for any and all advice!!

You have to hook up a vacuum line from the FIC to the manifold...the reason it's staying at 12.5 - 15 is because the FIC isn't connected to the manifold.

If you're not forced induction, you'll never see over 15 or so...so you should rescale that side from 0-16 instead of 0-40...

I forget, but .8 might be the lowest you can go...remember that's .8 of 1%...that's not much change...

People will have different opinions on the RPM scale...but I would set it to 0-7500...

i put a T splitter in my vacuum line on the valve cover and intake and ran the tube from there to the fic..not enough vacuum? so scale it 0-16 going up by 2 and a half each time? also wherever i put that .8 it was really jerky and ran like crap. actually if i put anything other than 0's it ran like crap

That's not going to work, you basically tapped into your pcv system. I bought the baffle eliminator from Ripp mods which gave me a vacuum port, which I'm actually selling because i drilled a port on my ralliart manifold.... let me see if I can find pictures of what I'm talking about. From what I've seen, there's not much as in sources for vacuum on our motors.

I would say tap the stock black baffle... if something goes wrong, it would be easiest to repair/replace.

You could get a vacuum block and hook it up to the IM bit thas just a waste of money I suppose. Want me to take a pic of how mine is?

There was a discussion on it awhile back... some said it improved gas mileage without it there, but there was a loss in low end power. It was advised that the baffle helps the velocity stacks in the manifold so it was best to leave it on.

Well my car is in the shop but I'm gonna dig and find a picture with my vaccum block so you can see how I have it set up. My block is hooked up to my f/IC, turbo, wastegate, and boost gauge from the IM

Sorry for the bad quality it's the only one I have, you can see where my vaccum block hose connect to the left side of the IM. That's where I get all my pressure readings from.

They hooked up this vacuum line to my fic when they tuned it. Does this line have to stay connected to the fic permanently? Or just while tuning it?

Did you just "t" the port on the head into the one on the intake?

Could anybody verify that for me? Because after they tuned it they disconnected it. If it needs to be connected that would explain why i havent noticed much of a difference... I wouldnt think it would need to be though... anybody? Brian?

This is both a yes and no kinda answer, it goes like this. Once they put some numbers or a certain map in the F/iC it doesnt matter whats hooked up to it. That map is not going to change unless you go onto an actuall computer hook it up to the F/iC and change it. Now lets say you want to datalog though, you will need the vaccum hose connected to do that so it can read what it needs to (load) but as far as im concerned the map is set in stone so I dont "think" you would need the vaccum hooked uped after everything is loaded onto the F/iC unless you want or need to datalog though. I could be wrong but thats just my theory on the matter.

EDIT: Eclipse you dont need to do it like I did because I have a ton of hoses that need to read vaccum thats the only reason I have the block, for you to have it would be overkill but I figured I would show you an actual way to connect it if nothing else works for you, you have that.

I PM'd brian about it in case he doesnt read this thread again. I'm really not sure though because if they tuned it and saved the map, then I guess its possible that you wouldnt need it connected. Because my AFR's are changed from what they used to be so the tune is there... baha im such a tuning nOOb

Hey next time you get it tuned bring a USB and ask them to load anything they do to it on the USB, all the maps they used trial and error. it would be a good bit of help for a few N/A people in the future to see who are about to do this. thats only if you ever go again, just a sugestion

If you're map is based on load, then you'll need it connected. You can check this by looking at the setup on the fic software

So trev since I am heavily load based if I ever take away the vaccum connection the F/iC wont respond as it should VS. having it in correct?

This is how my FIC setup page looks, (ignore the green box) if you look at the left hand side, you can see under ignition and maf I have the input selected as MAF. Now if yours says MAP, then it is relaying on the vacuum/boost for tuning, IIRC

Ok well thanks anyway, always unanswered questions when it comes to the F/iC. I'll wait to see as well what he has to say about all of this.
