Alternative to RRE Headers...non-newb assessment
I've been painstakingly watching as 4G guys wait for RRE to release a new batch of headers. I've got an idea that may solve your problem.
The stock Lancer Ralliart is header is very very good and the same motor. And can be purchased for very cheap (less than $100). Why not purchase that then get a custom DP made to accomomdate for the additional O2 sensors that you have? Just a thought. |

I do am a newbie on this headers thing... Some questions! :-)
Does that oem RA header fit our.car? What about the cats? Do you think that this may give us a considerable performance upgrade? I am not actually looking for perdormance, but if there is something that can erase that P0431 and P0421 SES light from my dash, I want it! Thanks!

man it's been a while since ive been on here. Anyways, all i have to say consider this. We share the same motor as the lancer, just non-turbo or awd
. The headers will fit, but for the cats, i would go full custom. If you go full custom the cats wont be a problem.

possibly for same reasons the lancer IM wont be a direct swap to the 4g. its a novel idea and i think it should be looked into but. there has to be some catch you know?

You never know until you try. If any one is in the Boston area I'd let you test fit on a spare manifold that I have.
Another point...if you get a manifold from the early RA's they are 4-2 design, manifolds from the later RA's are 4-1. Last edited by Ralliartize It; May 16th, 2011 at 02:39 PM. |

Arent the heads different and thus the bolt pattern? Dont know, just honestly asking. And if not, hell the ra turbo system would be a fun bolton...

Can you post up a picture of the mounting surface? That may give us an instant way of seeing if it will fit. If it looks completely different, we can say no right away.

^wait, are you guys talking about the headers (exhaust manifold) or the intake manifold?
sounds like something worth trying for sure - for $100 it shouldn't be TOO big of a risk.... of course going 'full custom' would be great but you are looking at a much larger chunk of change if you do that

I'll take a picture of the mounting surface for the exhaust header. I think it'd be a good mod.
Between the other 4G69 models (outalnder and galant), there's an abundance of these headers available. |

So, I have been doing a little research on this and Ralliartiz It may be on to something. The mating flange looks nearly identical. Now, we need a guinea pig. From the pics, it looks like a match.

Someone do this, I wonder if we can expect the same gains, like from the Rre or ripp headers, if I didnt already have my headers on I'd think about trying it

I made 150whp/150wtq on an AWD Dyno Dynamics using the stock header....stock WRXs make the same power on this particular dyno....I'd say it's good enough.
My dyno sheets are on EvoM (same user name) |

They most certainly don't, especially when it comes to top end power. Getting the Lancer RA header to fit would be a custom job, but for those who don't want to wait for the RRE shorty header this may be a good alternative.
