have you searched? there's dozens of threads that discuss these codes on here.

Which headers do you recommend ?? I take it the headers have ports for o2 sensors and that should end my service light issue. Because the car had to pass Canadian emissions they also welded another cat converter on. So even with headers there will still be a convertor in the system.
Thankyou |

for the GS i think Road Race Engineering is pretty much your only option, and wait times may be high right now... check the thread about it
![]() headers will not solve your check engine light problem, but at least they eliminate the cat converter and add some hp you must be talking about the 3rd cat, underneath the car, correct? you can keep this one, or replace it with a high-flow cat (same idea, just better)...if your stock cat converter is going bad, you will see an engine light... if you replace it with headers, the engine light might still be there because the computer is reading something different than "stock"... in other words, exhaust gases are not getting filtered anymore as they normally would with the stock cat... the computer expects the post-cat gases to be different than pre-cat gases (the whole point of a cat converter)... RRE headers means no cat in headers, pre-cat gases = post-cat gases = computer is confused... there are ways around it, check the numerous threads about that in the GS section... anyway, i'm starting to confuse myself here, so a more simple way to put it is: - your stock cat is going bad... - if you're under warranty and dont care about some extra performance, take it back to the dealer, get it replaced with stock, and dont worry about it... - if you're out of warranty, get the RRE headers (cheaper than stock), install them, and deal with the engine light if it shows up... good luck ! BTW, where in Canada are you? i know i didnt give 2 sh**s about emissions laws when i deleted my 3 cats in the GT

Post your OBDII Code/s So we can tell you whether it's a sensor or if the pre-cat is bad. You'll love the price of a pre-cat, $728.00 US dollars. That's why it is a lot cheaper to go with RRE headers. You should be able to find the part number here also.

The main restrictions in the exhaust system are the Pre-Cat, and OEM Muffler. There is very little HP gained by replacing the secondary cat, so a high-flow secondary cat is not necessary. You can also keep the entire exhaust system if you decide to go with RRE Headers, and replace the stock muffler with a Magnaflow Muffler or any straight through type muffler.
There is one combined Exhaust Manifold / Pre-Cat REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION <2.4L ENGINE> Page 15-17 http://tearstone.com/eclipsefsm/2006...0004600-15.pdf And there is one Secondary Cat EXHAUST PIPE AND MAIN MUFFLER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION <2.4L ENGINE> Page 15-23 http://tearstone.com/eclipsefsm/2006...0004600-15.pdf

If you only need to get rid of the light, replace the faulty sensor, or get oem headers.
Dont bother with anything that was said before... Most people here are performance oriented and will not replace a faulty stock part with another stock part, but rather upgrade to something better... Easiest way to keep the light off is to keep it all stock. Cheers! |

If you can get someone like your auto parts store to read the OBDII DTC code and post the code here, we will have a better idea what is wrong, and what needs to be replaced. We do have access to the Eclipse Service Manual for T-shooting and repairs. Eclipse Service Manual, you will need Adobe Acrobate to read the service manual. http://tearstone.com/eclipsefsm/ps2406intro.pdf

If you could get someone to pull the OBDII code/DTC, we will be able to tell you what is wrong. I'd hate to see you spend money on something that does not need to be replaced. Also with the code I can dig up the information for T-shooting that O2 sensor, and with a multi-meter you can test that sensor before you try to remove the sensor. Just a note, sometimes when you try to remove the sensor, over time the threads of the sensor sometimes gets welded to the manifold. So make sure you use a propper O2 Sensor socket wrench ($5.00), it will help in the removal. Also in advance, like the night before, spray the threads with some penetrating oil, and before you strart the removal spray the threads again. If the sensor does take some threads with it, you'll need to buy a tap set to clean the threads in the manifold before re-installing. if you don't do this, you risk stripping the hole out and then you will be stuck with buying a new manifold. This stuff does happen once and a while, so at least if you know about, it won't be that big of a shock. Also when you do re-install any exhaust type parts, and to include sparkplugs, make sure you use some anti-seize compound on the threads so you won't have this type problem when removing that part again. This is especially true with sparkplugs, our heads are made from aluminum so those threads will strip easily. HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR CHECK, 2.4L.
