usually i give a rats ass what people have to say about my mods, but this one has me thinking. im wanting to install a triple gauge pod on the ride, i have no turbo or nitrous, although nitrous is possible in the future, so is this rice?

afr is fine if you use a wideband, narrow bands are pretty much pointless, imo

Oil Temp, Oil pressure, and vacuum(useless), but the vacuum is just a placeholder until I can afford a wideband

you think as i do, stang. the wideband costs almost as much as the gauge pod package itself, that will be a christmas present from the gf. ive just always wanted to know these individual parameters daily. call me crazy

Yeah, I mean I'll buy a wideband when I'm ready to get a tune, but I'm far from that point so I have no real need to monitor my AFR at this point.

Vaccume isnt pointless, it can help u monitor ur valves. I also have a volts gauge cuz i have a system and screens so it helps me monitor when to turn on my car so that the battery doesnt die. I also got a wideband from aem. Im ordering 2 new gauges (fuel pressure and nitrous pressure gauge). Um intalling a tac today. My car is made for show and racing. I drive it maybe twice a week now that i have the rx8. Rice would be if u have a boost gauge whilr not boosting or installing them but for them not to work just light up

i have no problem with a vacuum gauge because it can be helpful. narrow band o2 sensors are kinda dumb because they are constantly jumping and cant really give you any good indication of your afr

A vac/boost gauge would be ok depending on future mods I ordered the vac/boost, oil temp (will be changed for a wideband aft gauge), and an oil pressure gauge due to my rearmount project should be getting goodies in the mail any day now

I would do oil pressure, wideband AFR, and a vacuum gauge or fuel pressure.

I have the wideband, volts, and oil pressure. Which are all helpful IMO. Especially since last time I changed my oil I didnt tightnen the filter all the way, and it was leaking, and my oil pressure was reading low bahaha

the narrowband is almost like a "guess" that hooks into one of your o2 sensor wires - only 1. it can't tell you anything, really. just a vague reading, usually with a series of lights (no #s) that certainly can't help you tune. about all it can tell you is you are "generally ok" or "generally too lean"....seems like the one I had was slow and too much of a delay, also.

the wideband has a special sensor it's hooked up to that you weld in and goes right in the main pipe where they come together, reading the entire AFR and sending back a precise reading based on how much o2 is in the exhaust. you can see it hover around 14.7 (which the ECU will always correct to in closed-loop driving) and you can see it go way lean 17+ or get sluggishly rich under 11 almost in real time. you can also hook it up to the AEM F/IC for even more functionality. worth every penny.

plain afr gauges are shit go with a wideband if you have the cash otherwise get an egt. as far as other gauges it just depends on what you want to monitor really or what your going to mod in future, but i dont think its rice, just depends on personal opinion on how subtle you want the gauges to be on placement

I'm about to get the same thing, a couple questions:

Don't we already have oil temp on the dash, so isn't that kinda pointless?

And I know the narrowband sucks but I was gonna get it anyway because it will be replaced by a Wideband in the very near future -- is it COMPLETELY useless, or is it at least 'vaguely' correct? At least enough to be of some use until I get my Wideband here shortly?

Scrap The narrowband and not oil temp it's oil pressure thats not what's on the dash. You may be confusing coolant temp with oil temp.

Thanks!

So the narrowband won't even be a LITTLE help until I get the Wideband?

And there's two different gauges -- 'Oil Temp' and 'Oil Pressure'. I thought oil temp is what was already on our dash? Am I wrong on that?

the one on the dash is coolant temperature. a narrowband and wideband are 2 different kinds of o2 sensor gauges. narrow band is very erratic and isnt very useful at telling you air fuel ratio. wideband is much more accurate and uses a separate o2 sensor for its readings.

Ahh, gotcha.

And I know the difference between the two and the complete difference in accuracy and reliability -- I'll be getting a Wideband in probably less than a month, I just wanted to know if the narrowband was truly so useless that it couldn't help me a little until then....
