pretty much:
Engine noise = loud. echoes through the IM. the resonator is like putting a cotton ball in your ears. you still hear the sound but wayyy less than without it. completely useless for those serious about cars. prolly for all the people OMG MY CAR IS TOO LOUD I THINK ITS BROKEN |

So the resonator on our stock intake is to provide smoother airflow into the cylinder? Could you explain to me how? Not being a dick just wanna learn!
and don't you want turbulence? Or am I WAY off track

go back and reread the link.now,im no scientist but i decided to block the im res again for the hell of it yesterday.i lossed torque on the interstate going at a steady 80 and then accellerating.noticed it right off the bat.today.i unblocked it,same route and i had my torque back.from what i gather from the article is the res slows down the incoming air from going to the back of the im and then into the piston chamber.so with the res on,the incoming air does not bounce around before it goes into the piston chambers.it actually forces the incoming air to go into the piston chamber with the down stroke of the pistons.thats the best i can explain it..

according to another member on here that has tried both on an auto,he said he felt no difference between the two.there is only so much air the stock cam can take in.

im bumpin this thread because after i put a real intake on i tried the block off again.it does seem to have more overall power with it blocked off.my accelleration is faster. here is why i think that is.
the im resonator is tuned to a certain rpm resulting in a spike in torque in that certain rpm range.while that is good,i believe the rest of the torque curve will suffer after you put an intake on the car because the res is choking the intake once you open up the airflow. i allso believe the reason why mitsu put that thing on the gs is because stock, the intake needs to have all the sucking power it can muster through the big ass pillow filter.if you look at the link in the colored graphs,it will show a spike in torque with the resonator on.with it off,it shows a more steady power after that certain rpm range. i have a manual and unless it starts to give me problems(which i doubt but i will have to wait and see) it will stay blocked.gas mileage has definately gone up with it blocked.allso, after you put an intake on the car, that resonator is no longer tuned with the specs of the intake as it was stock.i allso feel like the intake is breathing a whole lot better now.all i can say is,make a block off plate and try it out for yourself.i am full bolt on minus the header atm.anyway,i wanted to add this to the thread so its not misleading.i know some have tried it blocked off and said they felt no difference.if the air filter needs changing, then no,you wont feel a difference.

im bettin that if they would have made the car 700 lbs lighter and a not so restrictive oem intake, they would not have put that thing on there.i know medave, gravey, and elemenhope has it blocked off.if you dont have mods, then leave it alone until you do.gt tb and intake will get the job done without that junk on it.
