okay so i was driving my eclipse little fast ... on freeway....everything was fine..came home and within 5 minutes had to go out again. Drove for 5 minutes and went to this store and while waiting in the parking lot my car just turned off. i started it again and the needle was flickering between 1-2 rpms.....and when drove again, right when i pushed gas i felt like car is not picking up and even it was auto shifting at higher rpms as well then ususal. Went home, took a quick look under hood and saw my MAFF sensor was rotated and bolts that hold down the maff sensor to intake were missing. i hope that was the reason why car was not picking up and shifting gears at higher rpms. Do you guys think there could be something else or that is it? Plz let me know and for the maff sensor, for now i just put it in its right place and left it like that. In the morning i would have to find 2 screws that hold down the maff sensor to intake pipe. Any ideas where i can get it from?

You could get em from the hardware store, just not sure what size they are. In the meantime, electrical tape or duct tape it to hold it in place. Hopefully it didn't fry the sensor, not sure if that's possible if it gets rotated with air flow.

To be honest I have no idea. The sensor could have been loose allowing air to leak and therefore stalling the car, or the ecu freaked from not sensing the right amount of air. Wait til morning and let one of the guys familiar with this chime in.

one time I was spinning some tires with a small group of friends and when doing so my intake(k&n typhoon) pulled right off of my TB. When the air coming into the car was bypassing the MAF sensor, it stalled on me a couple of times. Yes my RPM's were flickering between 1-2k as well. I have a 6MT so I don't know about your shift problem, but I would say just get it bolted back up in the correct place and you should be fine. Did it happen to throw any codes? Or cause any dash lights to come on?

it popped off due to the amount of engine rocking under the stress loads btw. happened once at the track too, but the filter popped off that time. if you ever notice your rpm's jumping, check your MAF sensor right away. chances are it's not getting a good reading and the ECU doesn't know whats up
