"Real" Catback vs fabricated catback
Hey guys, I was wondering what the difference would be between buying a catback like the magnaflow one from rre, versus having an exhaust shop make up some new piping and use the axleback I have on there now. Would I see dramatically higher power gains by buying something like a magnaflow one or would it not really matter which route I went

if the diameter of the pipe is the same 2.5in it should not make a difference. . the resonator on the magnaflow is not restrctive . . the only difference u will get mainly is sound

Any idea what the diameter of the pipe on the magnaflow is? I'm trying to decide whether 2.5" or 3" would be better for me

U don't need any more than 2.5. Only difference with a custom exhaust is usually sound and they can be cheaper in cost sometimes. I have a straight pipe done on mine because I Dont want stock piping after my headers

If you're planning on upgrading your headers, or eliminating catalytic converters then buying a catback system is a waste of money as they were intended to be used with stock exhaust from the cat forward.

Some of the cat-backs out there aren't as advertised. The Aeon Imports cat-back for example was really a header back since it eliminated the rear cat. I guess they considered it a cat back since it left the pre-cats but I would have to disagree with their definition. I have a 3" exhaust on mine.....lost a little low-end torque but since I'm planning on going F/I it was the right decision.

i say get one fabbed as long as they use stainless. dont let them get away with using just regular shitty aluminized steel that will rust in 4 days... 2.5 is fine even with nitrous, just make sure they make it as straight and with as few welds as possible. just as an example the 3" i just built for my car has 2 bends and thats it, 2 bends, 4 welds. fewer bends/welds = less turbulence = better flow.
PS: i never thanked you for the stockes i got em in the mail last week. props on packing them like an expensive scientific instrument lol i was like wtf did he really use peanuts and bubble wrap on a big hunk of steel??

I'm considering getting OBX headers on my GT and also a magnaflow cat back. Would this combo work well? Would it make more sense to get the headers put on and just have a shop do piping to a magnaflow muffler?

yes, this is true.the catback is tuned with the cat or cats on the car.you eliminate the cats with a catback exhaust and you will throw the tuned exhaust system off where there will be less scavenging.so imo, going 2.5" exhaust piping without any cats will be a loss !.if you have a header, and a 3rd cat, then the catback exhaust will work well

you implied if u dont stop there, you are wasting your money, as a cat back will somehow be a negative with additional exhaust modifications. i disagree
