Hello there!
I did my homework, searched, and found this thread: GS auto trans , but it does not cover my question. I own a GS Sportronic, and when I use the sporty mode to shift: 1st pulls hard ![]() 2nd pulls hard ![]() 3rd pulls not that hard, but the exact issue is that reaching the 4000rpm line on 3rd the car seems to "catch a breath" or something and stops accelerating, even at WOT. ![]() This does not happen on any other shift, just on 3rd. Any other Gs-er noticed this? Is this normal? Is this some MIVEC-ish symptom (don't let any Honda guy read this if that's the case lol!) Thanks! ![]()

the car just doesn't have that much power, 3rd gear is a really long gear for us 4 speeds. So 3rd gear just falls on its face compared to the other 2 gears.

Try not using sportronic, I find the car picks up faster if its just in drive instead of sportronic...yeah the shifts are a bit worse but third isn't as shitty

Yeah I remeber my old thread. Sucks dont it?, but its all there. 3rd is cruising and fourth is just a gas saver.
My moms 2011 sorento has a six speed auto with sporty mode, now that shit rocks.

I understand now that the 3rd gear just sucks, but I am referring to something more specific during the shift's duration, maybe just for curiosity. Check this video on 0:10:
The 3rd gear - 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS - YouTube Thanks for everything!

mine does it too always has, like floor it, shift at like at 3k, then when it hits next gear it will go, then drop rpm just like yours did. try it in fourth too the same thing happends

Mines not too bad except I ALWAYS have a bog at exactly 4500 RPMS. The underdrive pulley has helped a lot though, my third really isn't THAT bad....

Disagree.
Mines pretty fast with full bolt-ons, TB bypass, GT TB, and TB spacer. And when I get my F/IC back and get it tuned that will add much more power. Bottom line -- no it's never going to hang with a fucking Viper or anything, but I regularly slay Gen Coupe GT's and the like. You just have to do ALL the little things that add up. And then eventually a superchager....

So my fellow GS owners all think their car just sucks and has no way of being or becoming fast? Then why are you here? On this website? That focuses on modding your car, to make it faster?
I think you're severely underestimating the potential if the GS. No it's not a 400HP monster, but it can be a zippy, torquey little machine. Proper modification, along with all the little things you can do -- TB bypass, TB and Manifold spacers, ported TB and manifold, new cam, motor mounts, proper tuning etc. -- along with weight recuction; and it can hold it's own and be a decently 'fast' car. Mine already is, and I'm not near done with it by any stretch. Bit by bit it has become and is becoming a faster and higher torque car.

the truth is just hard to hear, just because we can pwn shitty little civics, and a gen coup owner who is bone stock, doesnt make us "fast", just faster than them.

And....doubtful. Also, I never said you didn't love your car, simply asked a question to ALL of the GS owners.

But unless you're boosted, highly doubt you have more money invested than I do. My sig isn't really up to date, but I've dropped a good $4-6000.00 on this car. I really don't even WANT to know the exact number haha....

Hell, I've spent right at $1800 in the past two weeks so I might be closer to you than my original math indicated....
Like I said, I don't WANT to know LOL.

Ive owned : rre pulley, rre shorties, intake manifold and throttle body spacers, fujita cai, magnaflow catback, cf hood, progress rear sway bar, tanabe tower bar. I lost interest in the car, it had a nice little pull in second, but still fell on it's face in 3rd. I love my car, but I just realized sooner that the car's going to take a lot more than this car to compete with the cars of my friends so I decided why bother. Sure it looks great, but in the end its still a slow heavy fwd car that's an automatic.

On topic... Under drive pully did help third gear a little, but third with the auto tranny is a little underpowered in my opinion. And if any race lasts into fourth... There's no hope.

FIC fuel ignition controller. it piggy backs the ECU. im not a master with it but i will use u as an example. u r pretty much full bolt on. problem is u have so much of an increase in volume of air entering while emissions exiting much faster. the ecu does not adapt and automatically adjust to the proper amount of fuel needed to reach optimum performance. with the FIC u can intercept the signal to the injectors and manually modify this. u can also do other things to such as retard timing and stuff but ya
with proper fuel delivery alone u can see 20-30hp, which is the power that ur missing out on from ur mods
