there is a thread on this somewhere but I don't know the title. can't remember what the consensus was in there, but personally man, i don't know that I'd do that. you'll be messing with the stock set-up and you could cause trouble to your control-arms and other components. maybe it would be okay but I just don't know. someone else should chime in.
I know that lowering springs do the same, but I believe they are 'lower but strengthened' to offset some of the negative effects, and not just shorter springs. that's just my 2 cents. I would save up for springs and you can just keep your eye out for a set of used lowering springs to get them cheaper. you could also get some stock springs, cut that set, and then go back to stock if it seemed to be too hard on your car.

Then stay away from cutting springs. They are engineered and cutting of either end changes the whole dynamic of the spring. Just save some money and wait for one of us to buy coil-overs and pick up a used set cheap. You are just asking for trouble with your shocks and struts if you cut the springs and I would expect screw up your handling too.

You can do this yes should you do this NO. If you cut to much you will need struts and springs so if this is something you don't have the money for than you will be screwed if you mess up.
But even if this works out for you the sprightly rate was killed in the cutting and you struts will have a rely death. The resin the lowering springs work is the spring rate is increased for the amount lower to try and stay like stock. This is done with math to back it up and struts can still go out. So I would knot do it. |

I hate to say this but I thought this thread was a joke... No do not cut your springs. Save a little and get some aftermarket ones.

I know man but some people do it on other cars. like older impalas and other boats and shit, right? ghetto way of getting a drop, so if he doesn't know that much about cars/suspension/the 4g then you can see him asking - and that's what we're here for - save him some trouble and steer him right. but I hear you, nonetheless.

but yeah, dont cut your springs, you will regret it, first when you go over a bump and your center console pops out or something, then when your shocks stop working 2 months later and your car turns into a bouncy ride....even real aftermarket springs messed my shocks up in a year.... im pretty much convinced now that the only real way to do it is coilovers... or springs AND shocks.

Just watch the forum...someone will be selling a set of lowering springs when they buy their coil-overs. I plan to but not in the near future.....maybe late Spring or early Summer.

Thank you all for your varied responses, if you guys hadn't talked to me about what could have gone wrong I could have fucked up badly.
