A few odds and ends

My first thread is going to be so epic... I was thinking maybe I should ask what kind of CAI would be best, but then I realized that's just silly. Obviously I should be asking what kind of aluminum wing would be best!

Actually it's going to be pretty lame. I have a few stupid questions that I could not figure out in the search (internal or google+site:club4g.org);

1) Backing out with the wheels pointed east I occasionally hear a noise similar to the kind of movie noise you'd hear when a large bridge or other structure was about to bust. Tinny/hollow.... I'd record it but it's not consistent. My best guess is rear, and it's usually when there's a small load on the suspension (going over a sidewalk out of the driveway), so I don't know if it actually matters that I'm turning, but it's only in reverse. Any guesses?

2) Key sticks and won't turn the car on occasionally. Turning wheel doesn't help, I usually have to rattle the key around. This one seems so obvious that I actually searched for the past three days over and over to make sure I didn't miss something. This also isn't a panic causing ordeal, I'm just more curious if there's any known issues with the lock cylinder (ie, let warranty cover it instead of me).

you are a n00b worth saving... thank the gods you didnt ask the CAI one.. although... ive found the best intakes are made of copper lmao anyways as far as the grinding thing, are you lowered at all? after i lowered i hear a tad more suspension noise than i used to. also, check to see if your CV joints are okay. my boot blew a while ago and my joint went bad. now i squeal and grind when i make left turns only.

as far as the key thing goes, i havent the slightest idea. mine does on occasion but never consistent. and then i just turn the wheel and it goes. so.. sorry bro

I had my CVs go out on the last car, and that was more of a grinding/crunching noise. If I knew how to describe this sound, I know everybody has heard it at some point, it's just finding the right words. "Errrrr" just doesn't cut it on a forum, but it sounds like "Errrrrr" except think hollow and ... more errry. Maybe I'll just start hitting record on my phone everytime I back out until I catch it - oh and no, not lowered yet.

As for the key, no worries... might just drop it off and ask the warranty guy to figure it out. I've never been able to do that before, and I've only got a year left on this one so I might as well try.

If the sound you are describing is a thump when you start driving, it is the power steering turning on as soon as you hit 2mph, but it only happens once when you turn on and off your car. If it is a different sound and happens throughout your drive then you have another problem.

That would be spectacular if that's all it is, but honestly given the inconsistency of it I'm not convinced. I'm going to try and keep my phone handy but who knows; I'll look on youtube later as well, I probably sound crazy saying it's a movie type sound, but if I can find the sound I'm looking for I won't seem as crazy anymore.
