Attempting to diagnose engine/transmission noise

I'm actually convinced I'm hearing two separate issues here, which really sucks but hopefully they'll be covered by warranty anyways. I'd like to try and diagnose before I take it in, if anybody cares to help.

The engine has had what sounds like a light lifter tick for a short while now. Pulling out of the garage today my wife noticed that it sounded dramatically worse, so I hopped out and had her pull in and out (oOOoo) a few times so I could listen.

The alleged lifter tick was there, but worse, when it went into reverse it sounded like a metal piece was bouncing around inside the transaxle case. F'ing automatics... anywho, that's not confirmed but that's the first thing I thought. It also kicks up idle when it's in neutral, not sure if that's normal with these or if the IAC is just being wonky.

Yeah, I'm parking it until I take it into Mitsubishi on Monday morning. I just made a payment today too... better not be an issue caused by the last owner, because then I might have to actually pay for their mistake. Crossing my fingers something covered by warranty has failed, or that it's small enough for me to fix at home.
