Tranny or ABS noise - help?

Not sure what to make of an issue i encountered this morning; hopefully someone can give some advice.

First, its lightly snowing/blowing outside today, so the roads are a bit icy & slick. I put on new all season tires a month or so ago.

Driving today in rush hour traffic, I noticed that as i moved up slowly, if i released the brake and from idle just touched the gas up to 2K rpm tops, the second I released the gas it would make a clunk/grind type of noise for a brief second. The sound is almost identical to that sound if you hit the brakes on ice and the ABS engages, except that instead of being repeated and long like, its just for a quick second. However, obviously i'm not touching the brake here, just releasing the gas from a very low speed.

If instead from stop i rev up to anywhere past 2k, or like 10mph or so, then when i let go of the gas the noise isn't there. If i speed up to 40mph and then decelerate, at any point as i approach 0mph if i touch the gas the noise doesn't come up. It seems conditional on me being at a stop, and then just touching the gas briefly.

Is this the ABS just kicking in for a second because of the roads and it thinks i'm sliding & making that sound, or am i at the start of a tranny problem? Today seems to be the first time i've heard it, and is really the first day the roads have been icy/slippery; but i imagine i would have noticed this noise in the last winter or two.

I have an automatic GS 08 with 52K miles on it - no recent tranny flush, but scheduled for one in a week and a half. Fluids are still there - no leak.

Thanks, any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.

well, for sure your car should be in excellent health if it's as you say a 2008 model with only 52k!! unless you have a tinny accident on your wheels recently, just check the brake drams/pads. that's what I can suggest.

Thanks for the suggestion; but why would the brakes be making noise when i'm not pressing them? I'll be at a stop, tap the gas a little, and before i press the brake i'm hearing that noise for a second. Hoping its not something to do with the tranny disengaging or something (i'm really not mechanically inclined).
