Question about WHP on our car

What is the average percentage lost between our BHP and WHP on the GS? I know this varies of course but wondering what I'd be looking at stock and what to be able to expect with bolt on's. Thanks. (Oh and I did search and had a hard time finding anything on this, wording could had been wrong)

What was it like 167ish to the crank they claim? Some member dyno'd stock and it was 135ish to the wheels. Full bolt on's I was 154whp and with a tune I was 179whp. IDK what i am currently. I'm running darksides tune and I'll have to hit a dyno when spring rolls around.

So looks like we are roughly a 20% loss at stock. This of course would vary with the lighter pulley, lighter wheels etc. Kinda wanting an Idea what bolt on's would get me with a good tune. I'm looking RRE Headers for sure to be probably my second upgrade. Haven't decided on my CAI (which will be my first) or the exhaust that I want.

bolt on + tune will net u anywhere in the 170's for hp and tq depending mainly on how well the tune is

full bolt on u will lose power due to running insanely rich so stock will more likely be around 160whp. 135 is very low

Anyway to help correct this? So we can get the full potential out of the modifications ?

Fearless... it gave me 20hp with full bolt ons. It improves HP, the real power comes from the tune though. You lose ALOT of power from the crank to the wheels. I think it was pedro who dynod stock.

I raced a member who was stock and I had full bolt ons. I beat him by 7 car lengths, same outcome every race too! So it does help!

Depends on the dyno as well, Corey who is from MA dynod stock and he was at 160 something to the wheels. Its amazing how you can get vastly different results from different dynos. But everyone knows crank HP is higher than WHP

valve adjustment is $300

it is not too dificult to do urself as long as u have the gap specs and a feeler gauge along with some basic tools.

I'll definitely look into this. I don't want to end up paying $300 for it. I have a few family friends who are mechanics and my dad use to be so I'm sure I can figure it out. Can I just google the specs?

I think there's a how-to on here for the adjustment, but for some reason the search function has disappeared.

your Eclipse didnt come with the OWNERS'S MANUAL, that shows you how to fasten your seat belt, turn on the wipers and open the trunk...

the SERVICE MANUAL shows you how to tear your car apart and supposingly put it back together to specs...

They just put real motors in cars that happen to be RWD, regardless of loss. a 600 hp monster will hook a lot better on RWD then FWD. plus, you can also run wider tires in the back without sacraficing any drive-ability

I'm just busting on you man. It was my happy go lucky way of letting you know it was out there somewhere, but that I'm far too lazy to find the link for you... so I'll let you find it and if you post it back here I may even bookmark it... but then I'll probably still be too lazy to give it to anybody else in the future.

Haha I know, I'm just playing around too. I haven't tried searching for it yet. When at work I pretty much just hop on and off the forums when ever I have a chance. So I basically check what people have posted, reply, and start working again haha.

You also see larger losses through an auto transmission than a manual.

I wish the GS I have right now was manual. In WV, it's almost impossible to find a manual Eclipse or Lancer. No one wants manuals because of all the mountains.

[QUOTE=Daxenth;

so how do rw/awd cars have the most power if they have the bigger loss?[/QUOTE]

It is not that they have more power it is that they can apply more to the ground. In the case or RWD the natural motion of a accelerating car is to rock backwards and weight coming off the front and going to right where you need it where the traction is occurring. So a less powered RWD car even with the extra power loss of being RWD will beat a higher powered FWD car most of the time...therefore the need to challenge them from a roll

fwd cars have less things to rotate
rwd cars have more things that rotate
awd cars have the most that rotates

fwd car: engine>tranny>axles>go
rwd car: engine>tranny>drive shaft>rearaxle>go
awd car: all of the above

it's all about rotational mass... less mass the easier it is to turn it

it's more in-depth than that but that is the basic idea

as stated above rear wheel drive cars hook better allowing more power to be put to the ground
