4g69 performance parts, ideas/brainstorming

Hey guys. So I decided to make this thread to help brainstorm ideas to help further our options for aftermarket parts.

What I mean by this, is to come up with ideas on: how to make more power, finding more interchangable parts, determine what parts/options are needed most, determine ways to aquire these parts/options.

For example, we know that a ton of parts are interchangable from the 4g63 and 4g64 heads, such as rods, valve springs, seat retainers, head/main studs, etc. Something that I think we need to experiment with is intake plenums. Not that ours is all that bad, but finding a bigger/more free flowing manifold, with shorter/longer runners would be a good idea. Something that is direct bolt on from another car, or possibly find a company that would be willing to set up a group buy. I feel that a bigger plenum would be great, so we could look into even bigger tb without any air restrictions. This would be great for boost or forced induction builds. Honestly, if tuned correctly even good for NA builds.

I feel that another thing that would be very popular among the community, would be a different/lighter tq convertor for the auto tranny. Once that could help with the tq converter kicking in during 3rd gear, preventing that lag that most auto GS owners experience.

Everyone put your input in. Brainstorm, pull out all the stops.

Here is a list off the top of my head, of the vehicles that share the same engine as us:
2004-Present Galant
2004-2006 Lancer Ralliart
2004-2006 Outlander
2003-2011 Mitsubishi Grandis

I've joined thegalantcenter.org, clubralliart.com, and evolutionm.net and 9glancers.com to try and gather information on these cars.

I have a favorite site for my Outlander. It is japanparts.com. It takes forever to get parts from them, but it is all good stuff. Might find some stuff on there.

Anything on the outlander that you think would be worth trying on the 4g? How free flowing is the IM?

It is hard to cross-navigate that site since everything is listed under the JDM names of the cars.

aww man, I can't see why they even made a 4cyl outlander. Seems pointless to me haha. Hmm, the ralliart manifold doesn't look bad at all, but I'm not 100% sure on fitment issues. I may search for one cheap, and test fit it.

Certain 4g63 7 bolt internals will work for the gs too.

the ralliart 4g69 manifold WILL fit the eclipse gs. You have to extend a couple wires for sensors but it will fit directly. Bolt right on.l

We probably want longer runners on the intake manifold for more low-end torque unless we're going F/I then it's anything is game.

The OBX LT headers are essentially Chinese made knock-offs of Ripp Mods LT headers at half the price. I hear their quality has gone up in recent years but I do believe the "manifold" being discussed here is the intake and not the exhaust.

i saw the topic as 4g69 performance part so i thought i would post one. if the 4g69 shares intake port design with 4g64 (which it very well might) i can give more suggestions. i have an obx longtube on the 4 banger here from 2006 and still runs with no cracks or leaks of any kind. however my cmf's cracked after 2 years.

Ok maybe it's in my head but since I added my new fuel line for when I did my nitrous the other day I've felt like I've had better throttle response. The fuel line is probably twice the size of the stock one. Is this plausible? My thinking is the new line is way less restrictive than out stock one but it doesn't make sense to me since the fuel pump should be pumping the same amount of fuel regardless.

it does not matter. your injectors r being told how much fuel is being sprayed. unless u had some kind of build up in your old rail that was effecting flow

Is it possible the old one was gunked up? You should check if you still have it laying around

Went lurking at 5 am and stumbled across this gem from 2008.

4G69 uses the EVO timing belt tensioner which is aluminum, not cast iron

4G69 exhaust valve = 30.55mm (4G63 EVO = 30.5mm) May fit?

Utilized the 4g69 crank and block. Built it with Manley 150mm I beam rods and custom Manley .20 over 87.5mm pistons. Mated it up with the Mivec head from my Evo IX head utilizing a Power Enterprise head gasket and Cosworth h11 head studs. Have to put in a few more posts before I can start a thread so let's discuss here a little bit more.

Nice!

When you first posted I thought you put an EVO head on an Eclipse.

Did you have to do anything to the head gasket when you mated up the block and the head? 4G69 Gasket or EVO?
Did you do any work to the block besides opening it up a lil?

I didn't know Manley made pistons for the 4G69. Looking forward to seeing some pics and reading a lil more about your build.

Dave,

It is an Evo head on a 4g69 but yes in an Evolution. Considering the fact that the 4g69 is the same deck height as the 4g63 your clearances should all be the same in relation to the block. This is why I wanted to share with you guys as this setup could be of benefit to both communities. Not sure of the difference of height between the two heads/valve cover assemblies but if similar then probably wouldn't have any hood clearance issues.

All I did to the head in preparation was blend the combustion chambers just a bit for the larger cylinder bore.

I compared Evo 8, Evo 9, 4g64, and 4g69 head gaskets for a very long time. I came across a great deal on an 87mm bore Power Enterprise head gasket for the Evo 8 and 9. This, while a little pricey at retail, is a perfect gasket for this head/block combination. Pics will be up in my thread once my post count allows.

No other work on the block aside from picking up a mivec line feed adapter from MaPerformance. The Mivec feed hole on the 4g69 and 4g64 is of smaller diameter than that of the Evo 9 head feed fitting. You could just have the machine shop enlarge the hole while there. Might be a little cheaper.

I think you can get 87mm Manleys but since I was forced to bore my block out a bit due to it being victim of hydrolock in its original incarnation I had to go to 87.5mm.

Also I know this wouldn't be the most cost effective swap into an oem equipped 4g69 vehicle but it is possible and all pretty straight forward.

Question : is the 4G69's intake manifold's inlet same size as the 4G63?(I read somewhere that 4G63's throttle inlet is the same as the 4G69 so the TB spacer is interchangeable) The reason I'm asking this because I want to buy a thermo spacer for my GS but the only way to get this is from that Australia company I'm wondering if the 4G63 spacer would fit the 4G69 intake manifold if so, I could just buy it from outlaw Engineering for a cheaper shipping rate. Any input would be nice! Thanks - Paul

Have you considered buying phenolic board? From what I understand, its the same thing as all these thermo spacers but you can buy it in a sheet form and just dremel it to spec. Oh and its like $10 for enough board to do both intake manifold and throttlebody spacer.

Please be more specific. You mean the 4g63 head? We have two users on the forum that have already done the swap. If I remember correctly it gave them better midrange hp, while drawing a bit away from the top end. But to make up for that there is much more aftermarket turbo kits available for the 4g63 so any losses were made up for by going turbo.

Would the 04+ Galant's struts/shocks work with the GS's? I've searched around a little and I think they might but I don't have a definitive answer for this
