Rear mount turbo question

I tried to ask this in a ride thread to avoid starting an all new one, but I don't think it got enough exposure to help me get an answer. Anyways, here goes.

I need some input from people, as I am seriously considering undergoing a rear mount turbo install next summer (not a guarantee, but I'm researching heavily).

In this image, the exhaust from the wastegate is just kind of shot into the void (meaning it doesn't go out the back of the car). Could you run that pipe into the exhaust piping coming out of the hotside of the turbo? Like into the y-pipe that splits out into the exhaust that exits from the back of the car? Or is there a specific reason that it has it's own exit? Would it create resistance and back pressure that would be harmful to the engine/wastegate/turbo/any-other-important-components?

Alternatively, would it be against some kind of unwritten rule to run the exhaust from the wastegate out of one side of the car, and the exhaust from the hotside out the other? I'm wanting symmetry, but to be completely honest, as truly immature and ricey as it is, I want to ensure that all exhaust exits in a visible spot, because I really, really, REALLY want afterfire, and I know it will happen cause I'll be running catless. I know, I know... shooting fire is a silly goal, but it's my guilty pleasure, and I won't let anything get in my way. \_(ツ)_/

Ideally, wouldn't you want the turbo to be as close to the engine as possible? I'm not an expert, but this setup looks like it'll be very laggy.

Good luck either way, wish I could be more helpful. Would love to see your car running with boost some day soon

This is the setup from Fabguy's Kaiju Kaiju is born

A big turbo and the correct size plumbing makes for full boost below 3k RPMs. Lag can be avoided, and there are several builds around the world with a successful rear mount installed. And with our oh-so-spacious engine bay, a rear mount seems like the only way...
