Exclamation Manual trans compatible with the 3.8 4g?

hey guys! Im new so idk if there was a thread already for this, However Im looking into a manual swap simply because I would prefer a manual. I know people are going to say just leave it auto for now, go to flappy paddle,...etc. But save your time because this is something Im doing regardless. I live in a city where there arent many 4gs, let alone totalled ones. Im just curious as to if maybe one of you forum vets could shine some light this topic for me? thanks a lot!!!

So far as I know, the only manual that's "compatible" with the 4G GT is the 6-speed that comes in the manual version. You'd also need a new ECU, along with the pedal box from a manual car and several other things from one. The fact that there aren't any totalled 4Gs anywhere near you is not something that works in your favor here, as having a donor car available is the only way such a swap even plausibly makes sense.

You could probably make a different trans work (say, one from an older Evo) with an adapter plate, then figure out a way to make mounts, make the linkages work, have custom half-shafts made, etc.

I know you said "save it" but even swapping in a 6-speed trans from a donor 4G would probably be massively more work and expense than is worth it (i.e., in the end it'll be cheaper just to find a damned manual GT to drive).

+1 on what Jim said. Swapping transmissions is a HUGE undertaking and the only way you can do it is with a donor car. It would be far cheaper and less time consuming to buy a manual and swap over your upgrades.

But again, really your best bet is another eclipse 6-speed transmission, or if you really want to get creative, swap in an EVO X transmission with a custom fabricated AWD drivetrain, but thats a $10k+ project. Its up to how much time, effort, and money you're willing to invest.

So to answer your question, buy a totaled GT manual and swap that in.

You'd lose a gear with the Evo tranny. To my knowledge, Mitsu never made another six speed besides what's in the 4G GT, so that's your best (if only) bet.

Unsure about Canada, but here in the states I've found them from $600-$1200 depending on the damage and miles.
