It's not...it's ALWAYS active, when not in Mivec...

You have two intake valves per cylinder. Under normal conditions (Mivec not engaged), one of the intake valves is actuated by profile #1 and the second intake valve is activated by profile #2. Yes, this means that the two intake valves are opening at different heights...one lower than the other.

Then, once Mivec is activated, they BOTH open the same height (profile #3) and for a much longer duration than before.

Oh wow, that does make sense, I see why RPW had such a hard time making cams for this motor

Reading the specs is kinda like a forign language to me.
So umm how many valves do we have?

I know it's a newbie question. But had someone ask me that the other day and I realized I had no clue and never thought about it.

v6 has 24 valves.... 12 intake / 12 exhaust
i4 has 16 valves 8 intake / 8 exhaust
