Stupid engine noise....

Im so fed up with the constant clicking/ tapping noise the engine makes. I went to mitsu and they said it was normal. They said it was the risers but i mean shit!!

Is there anything that i can do to fix it?

It sounds like the 6G75 uses lash adjusters as well. If the lash adjusters are the same as the 6G72/4, then you could potentially upgrade to solid lifters from BLE.

will that do anything performance-wise? what information do you need to know so we can find out if these will fit? how much of a pain are these to install?

Dre, this is the BLE pitch:

Our BLE Solid Lifters have specific enhancements over the factory and aftermarket hydraulic units. Only the finest 8620 Aerospace and 4130 chromoly steel is used to manufacture this product. Each assembly incorporates a fine-threaded lash adjuster, which features a radiused pivot head, built to exact OEM tolerances for use with the factory rocker arm. The lash adjuster is heat treated to increase surface hardness for maximum durability & wear resistance. It is locked in place to the lifter body using an 18-8 SS jam nut. The lifter body is cryogenically treated and its outside diameter is precision machined to match the cylinder head slot and oil passage clearances. Furthermore, the assembly is then chemically coated with black oxide for lubricity, corrosion protection, and improved wear & anti-galling characteristics.

The solid lifter conversion replaces the factory hydraulic lifters and comes with all necessary hardware for a straightforward installation. These Conversion Kits are perfect for anyone upgrading the factory valvetrain and/or camshafts in their sport compact engine.

Horsepower

The main reason we designed this product is pure and simple... Horsepower. A solid lifter valvetrain is more consistent, opens to a greater extent, and closes faster than a hydraulic setup. This translates into better control of the valvetrain, as well as more duration spent at higher flow valve lifts. In essence, more high rpm power is found by eliminating the physical "collapse" (and resulting power loss) experienced by hydraulic lifters at certain rpm thresholds and valvespring pressure levels. The stronger your valve springs, the sooner this collapse will occur with hydraulics! Likewise, fluctuations in oil pressure will affect the operation of your hydraulic lifters, not so with this solid lifter conversion. As a result, the BLE Solid Lifters allow for higher spring pressures to be run, as well as, more aggressive camshaft lifts. So go ahead, REV IT UP!

Drivability & the Dreaded "lifter tic"

Aside from the increased top-end horsepower and potential to turn your engine faster, drivability and low rpm power are also increased by closing the valves quicker and thus keeping cylinder pressures consistently higher. Your engine will even idle better and rid itself of the dreaded "lifter tic". The loud, obnoxious "tic, tic, tic...." you hear, when you start your car in the morning, is caused by excessive valve lash. Your hydraulic lifters are designed to eliminate all valve lash. However, after time, the internal mechanism gets dirty and/or begins to stick, thus preventing the rocker arm pivot from moving upwards to do its job. The problem can sometimes be induced by thicker oil weights, cold weather, or simply leaving your car parked for prolonged periods of time. Our BLE Solid Lifters will set the valve lash to spec and keep it there until you decide to re-adjust it.

Lubrication

In race applications, where the engine is operated for shorter durations, and undergoes closer inspection intervals, a simple "splash" lubricated rocker pivot is acceptable. However, for street & daily operation, where constant surveillance is both unlikely and cumbersome, a steady flow of oil to the rocker is highly recommended for obvious reasons. With that said, our Solid Lifters incorporate an oil feed with a restrictor to lube the rocker, while functioning similar to the "controlled" bleed of the OEM hydraulic units. Other solid units on the market, with unrestricted oil (passages) release the full pressure of the engine's oil system, which can effectively lower the oil pressure excessively.

Product Development

BLE has undergone extensive on-track testing with our Sport Compact Championship Drag Racing[effort Team BigLen, to develop and bring to market the all-new Solid Lifter Conversion Kits for sport-compact performance engines, as well as future BLE Products. Until now, the benefits of solid lifter high-performance engines were limited mostly to domestic OHV applications, with few exceptions. Introducing BLE Products’ Solid Lifter Conversion Kits for sport compact OHC & DOHC engines.

So i went to the BLE website and found that they retail the set for 500+. I will do some research to find out if the 6g72 lifters are the same product numbers as the 6g75. I would think if the two engines use the same lifters than the upgrades should work accordingly. crossing fingers over here!!!

We can definitely get them much cheaper than that. I really wish I had a 6G75 engine to break down and make after market parts for

If you got the dollars you want to put down, I can build your engine up any way you want with whatever you want. Then just imagine that your engine would pioneer the way for all other parts

Sad to say for me you would probobly be well beyond my car if you build the 6g75 right. .8L will make a big power difference. I regret not knowing about the 6g74 before I started my 6g72 build.

Basically if an engine exists no matter how new it is, we have all the resources to make after market part replacements for just about anything in the engine. It's just a matter of having the stock part really.

There is a used 4G about 3 miles down the road from me for sale at a car lot, I'm seriously considering trading my Galant or 3G in for it to get started on R&D.

If I could get my hands on that, I could knock out the piping in a week. That car can be sponsored by TPS and RTS. Imagine the possabilities. You have to keep the 3g though. If anything trade in the galant.

Hrmmm... It's either you or me who's gonna have an engine built soon, Russ Doing it on a stand though. Gonna be slooow and easy. I was even considering shipping it to someone who knows WTF they're doing with Mitsu heads - like, say, S. Africa?

Anyway, back on-topic, according to ManyBrews on C3G, consider this - we've got MIVEC. The secondary (MIVEC) lobes are free to flop around when not engaged. Read all about it in the Issues and Observations thread over there.

Russ... you think you can migrate all that to here? Like I said, it might be a good idea to just merge the 4G section of C3G with C4G.org through crosslinking.

$1500 is just for a race port & polish job of both aluminum heads. That does not include the head refresh pricing in that either.

Not yet, although they do have 4G69 cam shafts available. Someday when I get someone's engine to build up or buy a 6G75 engine I am going to ship them the cams so they cam produce the 4 different stages of them.

Ugh. I'm looking to get an engine by the summer for buildup on a stand. Unless you find a guinea pig by then, hit me up

Be careful what you ask for, my friend... I myself am a little hesitant to do anything to modify the engine in the car. Unfortunately, there's no easy button for that

I talked to Dave, and he said that the 6G75 in the Galant (SOHC w/no mivec) uses the same valve train & cams as the 6G72/74. So... maybe the 6G72 kit would work for your cars. Only if I had an engine to break down... Dre

Wow. I didn't know I was thinking ahead of myself even back then. Ahh the good 'ol days when no one talked about anything but what intake to buy, where to buy em, and why it's absolutely necessary to shell out $300 to have em.

Literally nine months later, still only very few talk about the right stuff --- like building an engine.
