auto dimming rear view mirror problem

so...just noticed today that the green light that turns on when the sensor kicks in for the auto dimming rear view mirror didnt turn on. it was pitch dark outside and then when i got in after work. (still pitch black dark) it turned on but then shut off before i got home....question i have is, what is the auto dimmer run on? batteries? a seperate outlet or solar powered and if anyone knows how to fix it.

the auto dimmer has sensor that reacts to light, it will only auto dim when a headlight hits it through the back window. your not going to be bale to notice it unless you turn it on at night sit in the car and have someone shine a bright ass flashlight through the back window.

and btw, there is a button on the RVM that needs to be pushed for them to operate.

Hey, I have my original rear view mirror with the Auto dim option for sale, it's working fine with no problem.. I've just replaced it with a third party brand mirror that has the reverse camera option.

If intreasted, here you go: Eclipse 2006+ Rear View Mirror | eBay

mikey, i am having the same problem where my map lights are shorting out. what a bitch. brand new car and this thing is cheaply wired. I asked the dealership but they said they would charge me over $100 to fix it. i was like umm no its not that important. I'll see if i can rewire it myself before I drop that kind of money. or just get a damn new mirror

Mine just stopped working today. Only got it two weeks ago with only 14,000 miles on it. No matter if the button is pushed in or out the green light doesn't come on to let you know it's working and it just don't work period.

When you put "dome light" and "auto dim" in the same sentence, it's kind of odd. The dome light is in the middle of the car. The map lights (the ones that work intermittently for me and many others) are the ones on the rear view mirror with the auto dim feature.

I would say check the fuse first. The auto dim is ON when the button sticks out and OFF when the button is recessed into the RVM.

Yeah I check all that and there's power to the rear view morrow but I guess there's something wrong with the unit itself because when I wiggle the wire it works

mine does the same thing, its a loose connector in the back on the mirror, if i just play with it just right it will turn on and stay on untill something bumps it again. havnt looked to see if its the wire connector or the plug on the mirror thats loose though
