Buying a GT

Hey all,

I'm getting ready to upgrade to a GT this upcoming weekend. I've already looked in the problem reports and various other threads trying to find things to look for on the car, but I wanted to post and get some other input on anything GT owners have noticed on their cars in particular I should be wary of.

I've never driven a GS before, but just a quick glance at the spec sheet should give you a pretty good idea of what the GT is capable of. Damn thing is fast, even by today's modern car standards. You won't regret the upgrade. The only things that may be a bother are the dip in MPGs and having to use premium fuel, but it can't be that bad really, especially if gas in your area is cheap.

skysky has a spectacular aura about
Honestly they're bullet proof in terms of reliability and function...even safety.

The only things I can think of are:
1. Pull your door closed responsibly and you won't break the interior handle.
2. If you mod the GT significantly or beat on it you will eventually burn through the clutch. Its only engineered for 280lbs/ft, which is only 15-17lbs/ft more than stock

Thanks to the horrible resale market for these cars, you actually get a bomb proof reliable car that is high performance for relatively little money. I haven't had any issues with any of the OEM parts (I did blow the hatch struts once, but I don't count that as it was -30*F). My window did get confused once when I stored it with the window open, reset battery with it down and it reprogrammed. It is by far the most reliable vehicle we have had in our driveway.

RX8 had HVAC/AC problems, Diesel blew the EGR system and had to get new heads, NA miata has weak clutch cylinders, NB miata pops random timing codes(prolly bad fuel here), Kia sportage dying auto tranny, Chevy S10 had a dying auto tranny/broke a belt pulley/alternator surging/oil cooler lines leaked/transfer case nightmare/sketchy fuel gauge.

The Eclipse...nothing...the clutch started slipping a little but I changed it when I did my LSD. Seriously nothing has ever gone bad.

Truthfully Ryan, I haven't had any real major, or minor problems with my GT, I know I'm coming up on the timing belt change, and of course you need to look at the normal wear and tear items like, brakes, battery, coolant, hoses, belts, exhaust, etc. But that's all I can think off hand.

You're smarter then most GS members, much easier to buy a GT then putting in $6000+ in mods to get the HP of a GT right from the start. Before you know it you'll be running 300+ at the wheels!!! Good luck with your buy!!!

This was exactly my train of thought actually. Yeah, it would be cool to have a 2.4L engine that can produce the power of a V6...but why?

Thanks for the help everyone!
