I'm pretty sure that noise is normal.

What kind of dealership tells you a part isn't working but doesn't tell you what it does?

Dealership: "Your right front hoosamajigger is bunged. You'll need a new one."

stealership guy- no! wait! I think is the radiation by the rear manifold. The one that has green water. I'm afraid you're gonna have to leave it here for a week

we haven't heard the noise so telling us what the dealership said will help put us on the right track to helping you out.

That is the internal ticking bomb we have in our cars. It makes a tikitiki sound as soon you turn on the key before the engine start. Even with the engine on you can hear it a little bit, when the engine start getting warmer and hot it stop doing the noise. I know is a solenoid, but dont know specifically what it is. I know is been discuss somwhere, let me see if I can find it.

OK this is what I got from the other forum, thats exactly what it is.

"its normal... not a belt, its the purge solenoid located right after the throttle body. if you listen to it for a good while... it'll intermittently stop.. then start up again. the ecu's parameters will determine whether they open or close. if you hear the ticking, its open. and just for an experiment to make sure that THAT is where the sound is coming from... when you hear the ticking, use your fingers and pinch the rubber tube leading into it, the noise will stop. not sure why its so loud on these cars.. but thats what the sound is. "

thats the idle air controller. it pumps air into your manifold while your tb is closed so it will idle properly.

its normal to hear it.

someone should research other 6G7* engines to see if there is one out there that doesn't make that noise for a swap. I'd do it myself but I'm FAR too lazy.

its for emissions and it pretty much just controls vapor flow from the gas tank.
