Considering I work at a Chrysler dealership I decided to take the plunge and order my SRT-4. I won't comment on my specific reasons why because I don't want to launch a debate on which one is better. They each have their qualities

Yeah, the new SRT-4 is ugly, but in my opinion in a good way. Kinda like when someone says a bulldog is cute.
When you see one in person it looks much better than in a picture. Our cars are the same in that aspect. What I like is this. Dodge rated them at 285hp and 261tq. Several people who are driving theirs have dynod them and the ran 281whp and 260tq. In a nutshell Dodge underated the power as usual. They built the trans extra strong to handle the tuning most people will do. The SRT design team has regular chat sessions where they talk with owners about problems or requests. In the last session they said Dodge will be coming out with stages later this year and several shops have already started tunes and builds. Asside from all that it helps me since I sell them.

dodge generally rates the HP at what is usable after drive train loss. not from the crank.

Dude...
![]() You know what, overall I can't argue with what you're doing I have faith you'll make the most of the SRT-4 regardless of what it is now. Stick around though, Lee! Hate to see you disappear as with the car!

Nope... The Neon SRT-4 was, but the Caliber is stronger and better built. I just don't know if it still has the DSM variant engine.

It was a good run Lee and i'm glad we have/had you as a contributer to our community. Imo you will be sorely missed. But as previously mentioned I cannot question your motives, and I know you have a solid head on your shoulders so I know you are making a decision that makes the most sense to you. So good luck and post some pics over here for us when you get it!
Also, being it's Dodge, i'm sure there will be some Mopar kits and stuff... the Neon SRT-4 market is pretty huge from what I understand, if it's anything as robust as theirs you will have plenty to chose from.

I saw a srt-4 in person a couple days ago, a silver one, and i must agree that they are much better looking cars in person, and very practival with the 4 doors. Typical low quality interior but where it matters they seem to have got it right... I have been reading up on the srt forums and they are well over 300whp already with just basic basic boltons. I wont hate on you Lee, my best friend has an srt-4 and its a blast to drive. And maybe you can confirm this but I heard that a year or two down the line they may go awd????
anyways sucks to see that purty 4g go but you gotta do what do to make yourself happy...somebody is gonna get a real nice car for a great price. hope to see you around still

Thanks everyone, I'm not going anywhere. If you let a mustang owner post here I'm sure I'll be alright.
![]() I was very discouraged when the early news came out on the Caliber SRT-4 last year. It looked like SRT development dropped the ball. Now that the first cars are on the road it's evident they were laying low on the competition. With a simple exhaust and hi-flow cat the car is already putting down over 300whp and 277tq. Stock it's getting about 280+whp. The clutch, axles, brakes were over engineered to handle the future HP gains simple tunes and stage kits will bring. My favorite thing is SRT Development has regular chat sessions where they let owners voice their concerns, ideas, and questions. After reviewing the last session I discovered that stage kits are on the way. The 1st will be a simple ECU reflash because the current boost levels are held back in 1st and 2nd gear to make the car easier to drive. At the same boost levels that come in 3rd and 4th gears the car would be well over 300whp closer to 320. Anyway, I'm excited and if any of you would lke to keep Mitsi in the family let me know, she's been very well kept. This is what I have on order.

as soon as i heard they sent the thing out with an adjustable wastegate from the factory i knew the stages wouldnt be far behind
![]() The only thing that surprises me is that there is no lsd stock, instead if I understand correctly it uses the braking system to manage wheel slip and torque steer in 1st and 2nd gear.....I wonder what effect that will have on the brakes long term. I guess only time will tell, and I may have misunderstood so set me straight here if I have.

According to SRT the brakes handle it well. They tried several types of LSD during design but none of them worked well. The brake lock differential worked best out of all of them and is more expensive to use so I'm sure if they used it it was for good reason.

gotcha.
and a total coincedence but my best friend took his neon srt4 in for service today, long story short he is test driving a black caliber srt4 as we speak. And of course you have to be approved to buy it before they will let you test it...so im guessing he will be showing up at my door tonight in that thing... you fuckers ![]() yeah im a bit jealous...i can admit it lol

There's a company (DarrelCoxRacing) that has been tuning the neon srt's for a long time and they tore apart a caliber srt engine and have been track testing all kinds of mods.
In their words, the car is capable of handling much more power than it puts out right now. With a simple tune and reflash the car can easily put out 400whp on stock parts and with no stress to anything other than your hands on the steering wheel. I'm pumped.

same here about 3 weeks ago i was at the track and i saw a caliber SRT-4....the driver was terrible...he messed something up on his way bein that he stopped 1/4 of the way down the track and then drove off very slowly....but i agree it looks alot nicer in person but a little too much like a truck scaled down to the size of a car

hey dont worry about getting the caliber. its still a mitsubishi motor/turbo. just like in the last one.
i was on the highway with a black one yesterday coming home from work. we wanted to play, but there was too much traffic. i dont think a stock caliber would be a race for me though, especially from 60mph.

Stock HP he'd probably stay with you but he has turbo lag so while your torque is there on demand he would have to spool up.
Unless you have the SDS, I forget what build you have.

Sure, man... I'll post. I mean, it isn't much to post over there
If anyone's interested they'll just post here too. Good luc, Lee... hate to see the car go somewhere outside the family... if you know what I mean. Anyway. I'm sure someone else who's worthy of it will be glad to take care of it from hereon, especially with the mods you put in yourself to start

BTW, the sound system is spererate. I can leave it in the vehicle but will have to ask for an extra $1,000. It cost me $1,600 total and everything is brand new.

Any interest in parting out the mods before you sell it? It's always a PITA to return a car to stock before you sell, but the increased total $$$ may be worth the effort.
Either way, congrats on the Caliber and hope you get a good buyer for the Eclipse. |
