How To MIVEC Indicator Light

So this is the How To to make this happen when MIVEC hits
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWIj...e_gdata_player

To start out the how tools are different for the GS and GT

GS
For the GS you have to tap into the "Oil Pressure Switch Circuit "

It is pin 110 on the ECU or the switch itself is on the driver side of the engine, (Which I tapped into)
It is a yellow wire with a black strip

And the switch is only one wire, because it grounds out threw the engine, but once you tap into this wire, you run the wire to inside the car and hook it to the positive (+) side of the LED, and then ground the other side of the LED.

Now I put a volt meters on it all threw out the rpm Range and once mivec hits the voltage jumps up to battery voltage 13 V +.

GT
Special thanks go to DustinPeters for the GT wiring, he was the first one to figure it out, then I had to go from there and figure out the GS since it's different wiring harnesses

the wire color is yellow/black for the gt for sure, On the gt the wire is located on the bottom Harness of the ECU

on the second harness that's not visible with the cover on(wire is still accessible) there are only two yellow/black wires. If your unsure use a digital multi meter, the wire should hit 12v at mivec.

Instead of using a relay I used an in4001 diode to isolate the wire from the led.

Now if yall have any questions just ask

Great, now I need to mock up a MIVEC lens for the LED and integrate this into my dash. Awesome.

That would be awesome, I'm going to mount the LED eather on the radio cover, the top Radio mount(where airbag lights are), or somewhere on the gauge pod

That's the hard part that I'm trying to figure out, where to put the damn thing? I'm with you in leaning towards the radio cover as there is a ton of empty space to work with. Maybe even something down by the shifter, perhaps opposite the power outlet? What I have in mind won't be super huge, maybe 2"x2" at the very most and probably even smaller than that.

Here's something that I just threw together to get an idea on the board.

That would be cool, but I think next to the shifter won't work well.... Because your going to be looking down every time it lights up, I'm leaning towards the radio, but I'm going to play around with it this afternoon

What I would really love to do is move the button for the hazard lights down next to the shifter and use that space for the LED. Hmmm.... I may have to look into that further.

It really shouldn't be too difficult to do, plus the dash would hide all the wiring...alright I'm sold.

Now that I've got my game plan, I'll go measure the button to see how much room I have to play with.

That's exactly where I'm going to put mine as it's the only spot large enough to accommodate a CNC'd piece of acrylic that I want. Unless I can move the hazard light into the center console, it's the only viable piece of real estate.

Only problem with moving the hazard button, is you would have to extend the wire harness on it

Oh and make sure you check the inside of the radio housing and see if it'll fit, there's not much room inbetween the AC vents and radio....

I know exactly where I'm putting mine. I'm just going to make a small lens with the Mitsubishi logo where the gear indicator is for the auto. Probably going to make it blue.

Great work!

One question: Do you have any idea of what output current/power that yellow wire has, as to know how many LEDs or what capacity could be wired?

On the gs, it has full power(13-14V) not sure about current

I understand what you mean, and it can be done, just going to take some work, but I have a GS and I didn't use a resistor or anything, just taped into the sensor,

Now the GT I'm not sure

For the gt I used a 3v led, resistor was built in. I put a diode on it right at the connection to the car just to be safe.

I have the light grounded out under the dash, and an IN4001 diode in line to a 12V blue led connected to the wire. But even with a test light and someone revving the engine I cannot get the test light to kick on.
ANY help is greatly appreciated
-the engine has to run for about 30 secs before you can rev it high enough for mivic to kick in
-make sure your hitting atleast 4000 rpm
-swap the diode around and see if works that way
-are you sure you tapped into the right wire???
