Oil based dipping interior parts

this is a video on how to dip interior parts to give it a swirl look
How To: Oil Based Dipping Interior Peices - YouTube

start by sanding and cleaning the parts that you want to dip, I started with 80 grit, and worked up to 1000 grit

then prime and paint the parts with color of choice, I used Blue Duplicolor Enamel Paint

and then dip, the black paint is Rustoleum oil based paint, bought a can of it at walmart, just make sure its oil based

after dipping the parts allow to dry over night, Do NOT put a clear coat on it for atleast 2 days, otherwise it will dull the colors

finished look

Mods please move to the correct How To tab

and comments appreciated

A couple peices do, where the oil was thicker, but next week I plan on sanding them down some and then clear coating them,

I want to find some clear Resin and use that to give it that deep gloss shine, and that will smooth it all out completely

I've looked on the internets and have not found this, but do you guys know of an Enamel paint that looks close to the sunset pearl color so that my interior will somewhat match the exterior? I would definitely do this If I had close enough colors... Or would white look better?

well.. you can get the exact color made. may be a pain to get it in a spray. but you can get spray bottles for brush on paint.
the real question is whether or not you want the same metallic finish, or if you're alright with it just being a "flat" gloss color

If you don't find a resin you want to use, or want something aerosol, this might work..

i had an idea the other day, havent had a chance to try it yet. but.. will a spray paint sit on water the same way? a lot more color choices, and i'd love to see what some of the special finishes would look like as a dip. kind of wondering what a chrome dip on black would look like

Hey guys, long time lurker

Gonna use my first post and revive this thread by showing my attempt at this. It's not 100% on how I wanted it to look, but it's pretty close.

Thanks for posting this how to, the video really helped.

nflchick is on a distinguished road
I apologize for resurrecting an old thread, but I want to thank you for posting this guide. My interior looks so much better. I did what is shown in the picture plus the bezel behind the door handle and the switch plate speaker grille.
