Clutch fork travel

Brought home a new to me 2007 eclipse gs. Previous owner said the clutch was slipping but said he couldn't get into gear while it was running. Doesn't really make sense to me...but anyway. Clutch pedal feels spongy/odd and seema to be only moving the the clutch fork 1/2" too 3/4" . I'm guessing there should be a lot more movement . So does anyone know how much travel in the clutch fork is normal??

That sounds like a slave cylinder issue. Bleed it or have it bled, and see if that helps. I know that our cars had an issue with the ABS module failing, it's still under recall and they bleed the entire system when they do the repair. Definitely worth looking into.

I had a 05 Neon that had a screw on the back of the pedal that could be loosened to move the pedal up or down, increasing or decreasing the clutch play. I don't believe our pedals are set up this way, but that might be another thing to look at. Check the obvious stuff like the floor mat getting in the way or some clearance issue with the pedal itself, as opposed to the clutch.

skysky has a spectacular aura about
Does the car have the original clutch or a replacement in? If you cant get it into gear while running it could be that the clutch isn't disengaging all the way. Its called clutch drag. If you have the car in gear and push the clutch there's still friction as the flywheel is spinning. This means the transmission input shaft is spinning and doesn't want to let you in/out of gear. It usually locks you out of gear when you try to go in from neutral. Good way to tell for sure is to lift the front wheels, put the car in gear, hold the clutch down and start it keeping the clutch in. If the wheels start turning your getting power through the transmission still, which means its dragging. A little bit, like put your fingers on it and it stops, is okay. When I installed my new aftermarket clutch I had to readjust the master cylinder/clutch pedal travel......A LOT! I had to adjust my pedal back towards the seat, meaning it pushes more fluid through the line and disengages the clutch more.

Pretty sure it's the original clutch seeing as the car only has 136000kms on it. I noticed the fluid level was low which I thought was odd...and non of the brakes are leaking. But I couldn't find any sign of the slave leaking inside the boot or anywhere around it...haven't looked under the dash to see if it's wet under there yet. So regardless of what's going on , I went and grabbed a new slave and master cylinder. When I get them in i will know better what's going on. Hopefully that's all it is.

Run your vin on mitsu's site and see if your car has a recall on the ABS unit.

Replaced both slave and master cylinder today. Still wouldn't go into gear.. so I tried putting it into 5th gear and starting it. It lurched at first with the clutch pedal to the floor then it was fine. Slowly let the clutch out and nothin in any gear. But now I can start it and put it in any gear with no problems. ..So my guess is that the clutch is toast. So I will start shopping for a clutch kit . Yaaayyy !
