If anyone has worse luck than me these past few weeks, I'd like to hear it!
My first accident happened on a Thursday afternoon, out in Ontario/Upland, CA. I was a passenger in my bfs 2001 Honda Civic going from a hobby shop to a taco shop when a lady in front of us decided to adjust her seat while driving...the adjustment caused her to slam on her brakes and we rear ended her...simply not enough time to stop at the speeds, regardless of the fact we left space between the two cars. Here's the damage done to the Honda.
It was decided to be totaled mostly because the air bags went off, and the radiator was destroyed.
Ok, so? A sad day for him, but it wasn't MY car...
EXACTLY a week later (actually, a few more hours were needed before it was exactly a week,) I was driving the freeway out towards the same area to pick up my sister. I was cruising with traffic, about 70, 75 in the fast, far left lane...and then I saw cars in front of me started swerving. I knew something was gonna go down. There it was, what the cars were attempting to avoid, a huge, tattered, flat n strung out tire. The car infront of me couldn't avoid it, it was a bigger car though, so it went under them but was flung up into the air...where it landed right into the front of my car.
My car sucked the tire up under itself, where it got stuck...I felt my front end get light and lost control of the car...as the tire was stuck up under the front axle. I skidded across all the lanes of traffic, headed right for the cement wall. The car caught control again, right before impact, which allowed me to turn left and avoid a front end collision with the wall, but rather a passenger side/end hit. The cement wall prevented me from going off the cliff, but threw me back into oncoming traffic, where the car stopped, right in the center lane...facing oncoming cars. I wasn't sure if any other cars hit me...but looking back, I can't think of any other way the passenger door was dented in like it was.
I was able to get the car to drag itself to the side till police arrived, stopped traffic and got me turned around. 3 other vehicles were surely affected...a semi, which called the police and took off, and two cars...one which spoke to police and drove off, and the third was towed after mine. Police made us stand by our own cars...and this lady's car was facing the opposite way...from the back, it looked like no damage was done...and in the end, my insurance never said anything about any other drivers...so I'll never know her damages.
My car was immediately taken to a tow yard, where it was held overnight before being towed to an auto shop, where it was then decided it was totaled, with $13,000 in damages done (including the cost of work.) Not only did I lose my precious car, but when I went to pick up my belongings from the car, about $500 worth of stuff was missing...an ipod, chargers, fm transmitter, blue tooth head set, yaddayaddayadda.
RIP Skyla.
Now I'm on the hunt for a 2008 Eclipse GT, or SE V6. Wish me luck.
