in search of proper GT exhaust note

Whatís up fellow 4Gíers,

Iím looking to play around with my exhaust system again. As some of you know I modified my stock pipe to make it a center exhaust. I currently am running the stock manifold with cats and OEM resonator, but am about to soon install my ceramic coated RRE headers (ive been saying that the last few months). Iím thinking about deleting my 3rd cat and moving my stock resonator up closer to where the 3rd cat use to be located. Right after the resonator Iím thinking of installing a flowmaster outlaw series muffler. I already have the outlaw muffler sitting in my shop from another project but I just wanted the communityís opinions. Here's a question for you guys running RRE headers, do you find the exhaust note to be too loud and raspy? If so at what RPM range do you find it to sound like crap. Iím looking for a low tone, simi quiet growl, not a buzzing/fart sound. How loud are our RRE headers for daily driving and WOT? Can I get some input on what you guys think and suggest? Should I add a additional vibrant ultra-quiet resonator?

Here is what a outlaw muffler sound like on a stock 370Z (3.7L) this is a before and after comparison, skip half way to hear the muffler

Hereís what it sounds like on a modified Acura

Just my 2 cents here as I don't own a GT but this is probably what I would do:
Why not just go ahead and install the headers and do nothing else to your exhaust system until after you test it while daily driving and at WOT? If it's too quiet, potentially rip the main cat, change the resonator, and get a better free flowing muffler. If it's too loud or raspy, add a new resonator.

The problem with getting people's exhaust note opinions is that everyone has a different taste. Ask a Honda civic owner if they like their setup and it sounds beastly to them, but like a fart cannon to most.

For my setup, I originally had stock piping with the resonator deleted to a Magnaflow muffler. After I installed my RRE header, it was raspy has hell. I added a Magnaflow resonator back where the OEM one was and have loved it ever since...but alas, that's my opinion and I'm missing 2 cylinders

Well, Tim broke the GS ice, lol.

Dual glasspack life for me, but again 4 cyl. It's raspy with just the magnaflow. And glasspacks with the dimples reduce exhaust resistance as there is less friction vs smooth pipe

Thanks Tim and James for the input. I think your right Tim, ill install the headers first, then start to tink with the rest to fine tune the sound. I too owned the 4 banger at one point and had the outlaw muffler on the car but im not sure if the flowmaster will kill the thumping sound that coming out of my pipes now. I tried a while back posting a video of my exhaust but couldn't get it to work. It sounds similar to a subaru boxer rumble sound. Ill keep you posted

I should have my RRE headers on by next week. The rest of my exhaust is completely stock, so I'll chime in and give you my impression of what it sounds like soon.
