benefits from bigger exhaust piping

i need a little advice from the professionals in this forum.right now,the only restriction i have in my exhaust is the oem header.i have the same results from the peeps that have a header and leave their 3rd cat on.obviously i dont have a 3rd cat and my car pulls strong for it being a 4banger and N/A.my question is;would my performance go up if i went to 2.25" piping over stock ?and if so,how much do you think i would gain if any.right now i'm really satisfied with my performance and the piping will be the last thing i do before i start saving money for bigger plans but that will be a ways off and i am trying to get all i can get out of the car is the only reason i'm asking.so i would appreciate all professional opinions please.thanks in advance

deadninja has a spectacular aura about
If you're going custom, you could explore the option of a true dual exhaust or is that an issue with our Eclipses? Either get custom fab headers for 4-2-2 setup instead of 4-2-1 and keep them split throughout the length OR leave the headers as is and break the exhausts into 2 pipes.

Good luck whatever decision you make!

im no pro but i know like 3 inch is max. after that its too free of a flow and you almost (or do?) lose power. so. id say 2.5 is your best bet man good luck

it will be either 2.25 or 2.50.thats what i'm trying to decide on beings how the cat back is 2.5" from RRE.but i dont have a cat.what my main concern is,i dont want to lose any power i have now but at the same time i would like the engine to breathe as good as it can with the oem header.not going dualls because thats extra weight i dont need and 1 of the things i took into consideration while i was, am, doing performance mods is making the car as light as possible.

well making our car light, might as well toss that out haha. sorry to say but max you might be able to scrape out is a few hundred. if your lucky. our engine and body panels suck... anyway im gonna bank on 2.5.. like i said im kinda noobish but ive read alot of good stuff on 2.5, also, RRE headers. theyre a few pounds lighter and omg... if you can get lucky and find a member selling them pay whatever price they ask. lol. but IMO the best performance mod out there while shaving a few pounds. theyre pricey, yeah, but (i paid 330) the best hp for the buck. 15 horses instantly and a happier motor. tosses you back pretty rough too lol

the only bolt on im missing right now is the header and bigger exhaust pipe.gt tb,pulley, lighter wheels,3rd cat delete,sri,e3 plugs is working pretty damn good for me right now and i dont want to mess that up lol.and any amount of weight being removed from the car is nothing but good even though it is a small amount.lighter wheels means faster excelleration as well hence the reason i have them.i guess i could try 2.5 for a week and if i notice some power loss,i'll have to go back and put 2.25 on.

Noooooooo I promise you will lose HP if you put 2.5 exhaust on. 2.25 is plenty for N/A , the turbo'd ralliarts are seldomly 2.5 most run 2.25 .....LSD only has a 2.5 and it's easily over the 300 hp mark yet the car isn't up and running yet.

2.5 on N/A you WILL lose that much needed low end torque...

Kenny,
this has some good info regarding exhaust scavaging depending on what your goals are. ie: forced induction etc.
