If you look in the service manual under the "Intake and exhaust section" and then the "inspect air cleaner" sub heading, you will see a view if how the intake assembly fits together. The link to the service manual can be found at the top of the "General 4G Eclipse" forum.

Make sure you hook up that little vacuum line and the electrical connector to that actuator on the stock air box. It's meant to open up during MIVEC conditions 3.8k+ RPM and allow extra air through the intake into the engine. If you don't hook it up and you actuate MIVEC without the plug being there, chances are you'll throw a code. This is just the experience I've had with it. Kinda retarded, but yeah...

There is a huge leap between this interpretation and the idea that you can slap on any kind of part like a CAI and not expect trouble when you take your car in for warranty work. The law is not a license to modify a car any way you want and expect a court to back you up. It's almost never going to be worth the expense to hire an attorney and fight a dealership ship in court over a denial of warranty service based on this type of claim. |

The problem with Magnuson / Moss is that a dealer can deny your claim due to aftermarket parts, and then it is up to you to fight it, which means lawyers and lots of money. It is not like a criminal case where you are innocent until proven guilty; you are guilty until proven innocent.

.. my dealer doesnt give a shit about intakes..
and if you are worried about the exhaust at all. all that does is void your exhaust warranty. nothing else

Well that's why I said it had worked for me. If I know I am right n have proof and the backup of the manufacturer of the part I don't give up. Even if I have to get n attorney. As long im paying my car and even with aftermarket parts im taking good care of my car no dealer voids anything unless is broken by what I insttalled.

well originally.. my car was throwing the P0421 code.. and my mechanics said i should bring it back to the dealership cause it was a cat problem.. so i called the dealership.. and they said the cat would be covered under warranty if thats the problem.. so i said to him, since my car's warranty is up, i was thinking about putting in a CAI and aftermarket exhaust (obviously i already have it on, but dont want him to know that) would it voide the warranty towards the cat if it needs to be replaced.. and he said absolutely. so i wouldve had to change both back to stock before bringing it back in.. but miraculously, the SES light went off one night and hasnt come back on again so far.. (knock on wood)

if its the rear cat causing problems just replace it. if you know someone who can weld it'll cost you a lot less than doing anything thru the dealer.
and if its the cats in the headers. which would be the only ones with sensors on them.. i wouldnt think that would have anything to do with the rest of the exhaust. but it could be as far as they're considered. .. but if i were you. with an 06, at this point.. screw the warranty, its time for headers
