Did I make the right choice?

So I was at this mod shop earlier this morning and I had em order an injen CAI and have them install it for me for a grand total of $424 ($250 labor, the rest goes to pay the CAI which is about $300?) but the parts won't come until next week Monday and the deposit is refundable so there is still time to make the right decision.

I am not sure if I'm being overcharged for a supposedly simple installation and the price of a CAI is right. So if I'm being ripped off, do tell. And I'm not sure if the injen one is the best choice because I have seen others saying the Fuijna is the better brand.

just buy the intake and install yourself. it's so easy you'll slap yourself for even considering paying a shop to put it on. the extra labor cost alone could buy you an under drive pulley, which you can also install yourself.

it was pretty simple to install.
and $250 is alot... itll prolly only take them like an hour to install it.
if you know how to use a screw driver, you should be able to do this yourself.

Yeah, I would do it myself confidently but I've never modded a car once in my entire life nor do I know someone with the expertise... so I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I don't want my car blowing up on me as soon as I start the car after installing the intake!

The only tricky part is the MAF sensor. Don't over-tighten and make sure the airflow matches the arrow on the top of the unit. Otherwise you can't really mess it up.

Yep...that is an easy DIY. Good place to start learning. The hardest thing you will have to do is get the factory crap off and the new parts go right on.

dude your getting SHAFTED with that... just get the CAI and do it alone. honestly i didnt even know where the air filter was when i joined up. and i woulda wasted Soooooo much cash if i didnt learn. best thing to do is get a decent day and start tearing her down, just make sure you know how to build it back up. you can do the CAI yourself, its all bolt on. and like Psy said, just the MAF (little black recrangle box on the air inlet) is all you gotta worry about

honestly the hardest thing your gonna have to do, take the bottom skidplates off to remove some ridiculous thing attached to the stock box for some reason. people might tell you your bumper needs taken off and all that. no. just that skid plate. take all the OEM plastic shit out, put your shiny new intake in and feel the power!

good god man. do not pay the shop for this install. listen to this forum we would not steer you wrong. for the labor go ahead and order the underdrive pulley, or even straight pipe or axle back exhaust. which ever you prefer.

Yea. Best place to start modding is intake.

Hardest part like everybody said is to remove the OEM pieces.
1. Car is parked and turned off. Key is not in ignition. Unhook the positive end of the battery (it's the one close to the driver).
2. Use a flathead screwdriver to pop out the 2 screws up front by the air intake plastic nozzle thing by the grill up front.
3. ... where are you based? Unless you're in Idaho, I think we have 4G members in every state.

ive never understood why you have to disconnect the battery, i take my intake off all the time and never unplug the battery, nothing happens out of the ordinary, car works fine

Disconnecting the battery is to reset the ECU. Only needed when switching between different intake applications but if you're just removing and attaching the same one again, probably not required. If you don't reset the ECU, it will eventually learn but it takes a while.

alright, heres my .02 cents...look at my name...im new at this whole "car" thing too, just look at my name. lol...the first thing i did, under the hood, was the CAI, and then i converted it to a SRI, not gona lie, for me, doin it just by what i knew and all first time, it took me a bit...but you really cant screw it up. and once your done, (for me at least) it feels GREAT to be able to know YOU put it in. after that i put in and wired my halo lights and installed them...one step at a time man..and like everyones saying, this site is amazing and the ppl on here are more than willing to help. they helped me out a ton. dont ever be afraid to ask!!

as for brands, IMO, its all the same...its just shinney piping with a filter...if you want a better filter, then get the brand name filter you want if you think its gona change the performance. it would be a lot cheeper than buying an entire intake just for a different brand name.

I've added mods to my 4G that I would have never attempted in the past. Believe me if you can change the oil and replace the plugs you most likely can install a CAI. Just make sure you give yourself enough time and you should have no problem.

As has been said removing the old intake is the most difficult part of the process. Using the service manual at the following link should help.

2006+ Eclipse Factory Service Manual

Go to "Intake and exhaust" and then air cleaner.

Also when trying to insert the lower end of the CAI into position, remove the radiator overfill tank first. It will make it much easier.
