Using airbox resonator as cai inlet.

Has anyone tried to cut a hole in the factory airbox resonator in the fenderwell area as an extra air inlet?Thats where an aftermarket cai filter would be mounted in that same general area anyway. That would be a good way to use the resonator to our advantage & maybe an inexpensive option to a cai?

Gains would be negligable. Sound would be more aggressive but nothing like an open element air cleaner.

plus the box is extremely restricting.
dropped my flashlight in it while installing cai and had to cut the box up to get it back.
only benefit (if any at all) will be sound

Airbox is restricted mainly because how the air is draw into it, like that stupid air duct that goes under the hood that *suppose* to draw in fresh cool air.

groundpounder will become famous soon enough
I use my stock box and snorkel and cut 2 holes in the res box and it works fine, and i also don't draw in any engine compartment hot air.

Stock air box will never be a substitute for a proper intake it is designed ridiculously restrictive mainly for sound deadening. If you want sound cut off the resenators if you want minute performance while staying stock install a K&N drop in filter. If your a car enthusiast who enjoys hearing the engine work and would like an extra little bite with the right pedal get a proper intake.
