Cams, valves, and pistons come together?
ok. bunch of us GT guys are getting into pistons, rods, P&P and other things and i was wondering how i all comes together. im going to orger custom pistons soon and i was also looking to get cam regrinds, p&p and larger valves. pistons have the valve cut outs on them but i would imagine they are to stock specs so am i going to have to tell them im going with larger valves? and if i do regrinds changing the lift and duration are the valves going to do deeping into the engine and have to make those vlave indents deeping? how does it all come together. is it even possible for the piston to hit a valve? dont the valves completely close then the pistons are at the top? Theres one shop making the pistons, one doing the regrinds, one doing the valve and p&p work and another putting it all together. it just seems like a lot all coming together. do i have to imform all these shops whats goin on and then they make according hopeing that it all works when it comes togerher??

It is possible for your pistons to hit the valves if your timing isnt right or other causes and if your using several shops i would let them all know what the specs are of your other mods like lift and duration of your cam and what type of pistons you are running like flat tops or what not, cause it sounds like you are gonna run a flat top that is dished for your valves but then if you start changing your duration of how long your valves are open to get air in to your cylinder then you might have to change around some thing but any motor build shop should be able to help you out...

deltas has springs and retainers for $600
being that im going for a larger valve and a custom regrind on the cam which will have more lift and longer deration doesnt the piston maker have to take that into account when making the valve pockes on the piston? the stock pistons have very shallow valve pockets cut and i plan on going slightly less compression which would make those pockets even smaller if any but im not sure how the new cams will effect the valve piston clearance... |

let's do a group by on the valve package from Delta cams.
the P n P work will be a different job. then let's find a group buy for head gaskets. head studs, and any other hardware needed for the build.
