Oil Catch Can
What do you guys think of Oil Catch Cans? I'm curious about putting one in, but I've never done anything like it before and also wondering about what it does.
I've been told that even totally stock cars can gain from having one installed. Anyone familiar? |

hey man I have one. they are used to stop oil from getting into your intake manifold. helps extend the life of the engine, etc. you would want to use one on any high performance engine or car with higher then average oil pressure - i.e. OURS.
It doesn't add any power of course but is good for your engine. A hose coming out of the front valve-cover goes to one side of the can and a hose coming out of the other side of the can goes to the intake manifold. don't know if I would say "gain" from having one installed but all stock cars could "benefit" from it - at least in a minor way. If you drive aggressively at all I'd say go ahead and put one in. they are cheap and good for your motor, but I don't know what the real benefit to an NA motor would be - BUT it certainly couldn't hurt. like I said, we do have higher then average oil pressure. Here I'll get a pic of mine installed

Joey, on yours I only see 2 tubes. There is always a 3rd line on all of them that I see. What is that?

JoeyB said it all. They help keep oil out of your intake. Usually only FI motors use them due to their higher oil pressures however I have one on my NA setup and i was surprised at just how much oil it keeps out of my intake.

not all of them have it but most do. and going to your oil pan shouldn't be a problem for most. I just have that extra oil pressure b/c of that blower

Well the one pictured is like 125 bucks. I'm not spending that, just used as an example.
I'm looking at one from eBay for like 30 bucks or something. Is there any real difference or something I should look for when buying one? |

oh hell no - it's just about functionality, and after that just how "pretty" it looks under there. You could make your own for very cheap, I'm sure. I wanted mine to be kind of shiny, and not totally homemade looking - but it could certainly be done for very cheap.
