axle-back vs. cat-back
I was reading somewhere on here that an axle-back exhaust for the gs does add some improvement because of how the stock muffler restricts. I was just wondering that if it is really worth the extra $200 or so to get the magnaflow cat-back, or if i should just get the RRE axle-back and call it a day.
Anything regarding the improvements of each of these and any other ideas regarding these two would be a great help. thanks in advance |

thank you for intelligently asking a question.
axle back is sufficient. the stock piping is big enough. if you dont care about it looking pretty, do axle back. replace or gut the rear cat. headers and youre done with the exhaust.

o really? didnt know that...just from looking at autocity and rre i figured only spending 120$ was the better way to do my exhaust. It actually sounds decent..kinda took a leap of faith when i did it. But a i get a lot of comments on it so im happy with it...depending on how the rre headers sound with it i may have to change the tip.

you can do whatever you want. straight pipe, single straight thru muffler. Y pipe to dual straight thru mufflers. single pipe to dual outlet muffler. straight thru muffler before a Y pipe, then straight pipe dual tips.. anything.
biggest issue will be. if you dont use high quality materials. and you add headers. your exhaust may sound like shit. raspy sound comes from thin metal vibrating.

well i had a reputable shop do the welding and etc, so i am going to have to check with them about what materials they used. What are some good materials that you have personally had on your car?

well mine is far from the most cost effective way. i had an axle back system custom made (muffler and all) from full stainless steel. and replaced my rear cat with a random technology 100 cell. left the stock piping otherwise.

oh yeah. ive got $600 into the exhaust. the axle back was to try to get something put into production for the galant. but no one else bit. so i got the only one and it never went into production. so there is still no one making a direct bolt on axle back for the galant.
