Short Ram VS Cold Air... regarding weather?
Ok so I've read some of the stats between the air temp coming through the 2 different styles of intakes. My concerns are as follows...
I live in Indianapolis... so in winter it can get rather nasty with regards to snow. 8-12 inches at a time easy. When summer is here, it can pour rain. Cars in front of me splash up water from the road. I try not to hit puddles. Luckily the intake would be on the drivers side rather than the passenger side where most of the puddles are. But I'm concerned about hydrolock if I went with a CAI based on the weather. But I have read the Weapon-R Secret Weapon filters have pore sizes 1/6 of that to normal air filters... so maybe that would assist in less water getting in... but anyways. A friend of mine told me he runs a CAI in the summer and just extra careful to not hit puddles and not to worry about the rain because there isn't going to be a significant amount to get up underneath the car anyways. And then in the winter he runs a short ram. Since we can get pretty damn cold here, the air coming in anyways is going to be colder than if it were summer so it does the same job as a CAI. Does this sound like a good idea? Should I run a CAI during the summer and just watch the flooding puddles and then when winter comes swap it out for the short ram? Opinions?... experiences? This will be my first ever aftermarket intake so I don't want to have problems. Last thing I want is my motor sucking up water when it's the only vehicle I have. |

i have an injen cai on my 06 gt and i have had it for a year. i have ran my car through rain and snow with no problems. i just watch where i drive. you can also run a prefilter on the air filter too. it is just a sock that will slip over the filter. it will help keep light water plashes off the cotton filter. do you have a gs or a gt. i know the gt cai will sit behind the driver side fog light so it is kind of protected in its own box. not sure if the gs is in the same place.

2.4L with automatic transmission
Seems like most people say between Injen and Fujita that they both give the same performance gains but the Fujita sounds better somehow. Also read that Injen is a subsidary of Fujita so it's the same company. Fujita's website doesn't mention an authorized online dealer list though. Where's the best place to get a Fujita? Some of the sites look kind of... hmmm.. for lack of a better term... not trustworthy? |

Don't be a idiot when you drive try to avoid puddles and don't ford any amount of standing water more than a few inches deep and you'll be fine with the CAI. I have had CAI on my last 2 cars this one makes 3 and have yet to hydrolock it. And I line in south FL where it rains every day durring summer.

CAI all the way!
I picked up a 2011 GT 6MT back in april, installed the Injen CAI shortly after with the hydralock system. I picked it up right from the mitsu dealer with install for no cost install!. I haven't had a single problem, though i do avoid hitting big puddles or sitting in them if i can. But i also drove a lowered vehicle with a CAI prior to this and learned early on to be careful of what i'm rolling over
![]() I'd say go with the CAI all year round, i'm in canada and other than an occasional rough idle for a few moments during cold starts (its been as low as -36c this winter so far) i let it idle for a few minutes and then start moving. no rough idles between lights. On the GT the CAI mounts in behind the front driver fog light and is very well protected from the weather. |

![]() back to topic, same comments here, i have a Fujita CAI, and drive through any weather, rain, shine or snow... havent had an issue yet, although i must admit i was a little worried last week in Vancouver's construction zones where the pavement was rough and puddles everywhere... but like others said, stay away from the deep ones and you'll be OK... rain, slush, snow are no problemo !! |

ok. this has been talked about so much on this site, i had the same question, SRI, or CAI. let me tell you for fact. for the GT and the GS, they both sit VERY SAFE under the car bumper behind the foglight. i have had it on my GS for a while, and drove all through the rany season in Dover DE, it rains a LOT, ive drove close behind cars that are spittin up all sorts of water, drove through puddles, all that stuff people ^^^^ up there are saying not to do, ive done at one time or another (by accident) and my car has never showed a problem. there are MANY problems with the SRI as in, heat, dirt getting blown at it from the radiator fan, it seems it would be more bennifitial to have the stock intake besides the short ram intake. just get the cold air intake. nothin bad will happen to it.
