Fujita CAI Install
Besides the basic making it fit, plugging the vacume tube on is their anything else I need to do?
Unplug the battery for a few minutes to reset the MAF Sensor maybe? Anything else I need to know? |

just don't forget to move your MAF sensor. be careful with it - you don't want it to get dirty or banged around at all. it's one of the simplest mods you can do.

You mean move it to the hole in the intake where it goes right?

Just to be the devil's advocate -- how about disconnecting your battery whilst you hook that shit up and then once you're done put it through the learning process that's outlined in the service manual. I don't know if it will make a difference or not, but it never hurts to error on the side of caution or thoroughness.

'the learning process outlined in the owners manual'?
What does that mean? I'm getting the intake used so I wont have the instructions.

Unplug the battery whenever you screw around with your car...
When you're done with the intake, plug it back in. Key to "on" but dont start the engine for 10sec, then off, wait a bit, turn the engine on, idle for 5min and go for a drive ! No WOT for about 20-30 miles, then you can enjoy your CAI to its full potential

Haha, nice I like it. So you're saying just open it up for a good stretch and let the engine get acclimated to it basically?

Well, UPS says it should be here by noon tomorrow so I'm about to fucking wet myself! Ahhhh.... I've been trying to find a Fujita forever, I knew that's exactly what I wanted and I wouldn't buy any other one even though I've been dying for a CAI. I'm totally stoked....

I saw his vid. Arms his nitrous and BOOM!!
One suggestion for putting in your CAI, turn your wheels to the left so you have better access to the plastic panel that covers the resonator. There's a bolt you need to undo to get that out. Obviously do that while you can still start the engine...heh You're going to love how your car sounds after doing this!! I'm hoping my new one arrives today too so I can drop it into my Spyder tomorrow. |

Get used of disconnecting the battery anytime you do maintenance on this vehicle or any newer vehicle. It's simple, would you open your home PC while it was still plugged into the wall outlet, of course not, you could hit a circuit with stray voltage and zap you computer. Same goes with our cars, an ECU is a computer, stray voltage can kill the computer, or set-off certain SES, or SRS lights if the battery is not disconnected.
Our car has five-ECU's, all most all the circuits and components run in series to one ECU or another, or several ECU's. Take for example the heads-up display (out side temp, radio, compass), what does that have to do with the SRS system (Safety Restraint System)? It runs in series with the ECU that controls the SRS system. If you disconnect the wrong wires while messing with the heads-up display you'll set-off the SRS Light and it will only cost you $100 to have it reset by the stealership. Same thing goes if you want to remove the seats, or even put your hands under the seat to get something out. If you disturb those wires while the battery is connected you'll set the SRS light. Our ECU's are extreamly intelligent and read line voltages, and resistance of the series circuits. If the voltage or resistence is off, the ECU will shut down those circuits to prevent damage to the components. Something as simple as replacing a bulb with a LED type bulb can/will shut down a circuit, it's happen to many people. But in the case of installing a CAI and the reason for reseting the Main ECU, it reset the neutral position of the throttle body sensors for idle, and it's a lot easier for the ECU to learn it's new parameter from a factory setting then it is for it to back learn from a know position which on some intake systems will set a SES light until the ECU back learns it's new parameters. So play it safe, if you're not sure, disconnect the battery, especially if you don't have an OBDII Code Reader to reset any SES Lights / DTC, it'll save you a trip to AutoZone for a reset.

Ive definitely made it a habit to disconnect after having some trouble with my MAF acting up.
I do have a reader though, so I can always reset any codes. But I learned damn quick with this car that the ECU is very touchy and the thirty seconds it takes to disconnect could save you a workable time later. Especially with performance parts, like you said, best to let it learn from scratch anyway.
