CAI on 2009 GT - temp numbers included
As some of you, know I bought a 2009 Eclipse Spyder GT a couple of weeks ago. My Fujita CAI arrived this last Friday and I installed it Saturday.
BTW, while AutoCityImports states it fits 2006+ GT's and while technically true, I did find one slight issue. On the 2006 GT I had prior, the mounting bracket connects to the car near the ECU. On the 2009, there is no such mount point. I'm going to have to drill a hole into the mounting bracket and use a zip tie or something like that to restrict it's movement. Ok...now for some temperatures. The first set was taken with the stock intake installed. And then I did another run today with my CAI installed. These were all done driving home from work in downtown Atlanta to Acworth, a burb about 30 miles NW including a lot of stop and go traffic on I-75. Outside temp readings were based on what my car said it was. Intake temp readings were taken from my iPhone using Dash Command via my Kiwi ODB2 connector. All temps were taken on the interstate to keep the comparison as close as possible. May 25 - Outside air temp 92-94F Min air temp while driving about 70-80 mph: 102F Max air temp while stuck in traffic: 138F With the Fujita CAI installed: May 31 - Outside air temp 94-97F Min air temp while driving about 70-80 mph: 102F Max air temp while stuck in traffic: 120F So while despite today being a slightly hotter day, the air intake was cooler while stuck in traffic. And it actually dipped to 100F while at speed but never maintained that for more than 30 seconds so I really didn't count it even while going at highway speeds. And of course a couple of pics of new CAI: ![]() ![]() |

I think I know what you're talking about. There's a sticky about SRI vs CAI and there are temp number posted from 2007. Mine are are stock vs CAI.
Similar but still different. |

You know as impressive as 18 degrees is on a hotter day in traffic, I see better results from my AEM intake + Outlaw spacers. I've seens IAT's as low as 75-80 degrees.
The spacers are a definite good investment. |

Good info. I always thought the cai gets really hot from the engine heat and would benefit from some insulation. I picked up some for AC ducts but haven't tried it. I'll have to try your monitoring setup. Where did u get the obdb2 connector?

For some OBD2 readers they have an option for "Live Feed" data. You just select that option and go drive.
It's good stuff. Personally though, I like the inside of my engine bay looking semi-pretty. No way I'm sticking A/C duct around my CAI...

PLX Kiwi Wifi - Connect your iPhone / iPod Touch to your car's OBD2 OBDII Port. I actually picked it up off of eBay for about $110 after the 10% off coupon I had from eBay. And then I used Dash Command on my iPhone. You could also use FuzzyCar app which is free. The biggest difference is FuzzyCar won't record any settings so basically it's fine for monitoring but not recording info. And Dash Command has a nice set of premade guages plus more that you can download. Also for those of you with Droid phones, Kiwi also makes a bluetooth version that can connect to the Droids. |

And do you think ~$100 cost for the Outlaw kit is worth the cost?? Unless you can get just the throttle body gasket by itself. |

Hey, what could you use that for, otther than intake temps?...
Without a wideband O2? I have a OBD II reader, but it states clearly not to use it with the engine running... Thanks! |

Haha, yeah sorry i was talking to you
![]() I think a wideband allows you to read your air-fuel ratio, helps for tuning... I'll do some more research on that cable you're using, may be a good thing to have around ![]() Cheers! |

Just read more on Dash Command... $50, holy smack !!!! Anyhow
![]() Can you read your air/fuel ratio on your Eclipse? It's one of the key parameters when tuning with the F/IC for example... I'll |

I'm just saying it would be interesting to see some numbers with some ugly insulation on the cai. I wouldn't want it in the engine bay all the time either. Thx for the inf, i've got the android.

I'm not seeing that stat in Dash Command. But I'll hook it up tomorrow and see if I can pull that stat with either app. It maybe in the logging that it does. I know it knows how much fuel is going into engine and it does log that. It also logs air flow...
BTW...you have PM coming... |

Dash Command does indeed have the ability to read air/fuel ratio using it's logging feature. Now I just need to figure out what f'n app can open .lgf file to actually read the data.
Also I do know that Dash Command makes software for a Windows PC that can stream and log the data wirelessly. That would probably be better for doing a tune. |
