Curious: has anyone modded their CAI (shorter)?

I keep going back and forth on Injen CAI vs K&N SRI. At one point I decided no-way on the CAI due to the risks with water.

I'm thinking of getting the CAI and shortening it by a few inches to keep it a few inches higher off the ground. I don't know if this is possible?

Has anyone ever considered doing this, or even done it before?

And please, any comments telling me not to worry, it'll be OK as-is, etc, is a waste of breath - I've read all those comments in the other threads. Just wondering if it's possible and/or if anyone's done it or looked into it. Thx!

Maybe...But in the end the cai for our cars are placing the filter down under the bumper. If you run through water deep enough its going to hydro lock. Even if you can cut it and move it up a few inches. You still have to watch for water. Get some motor mounts if it will make you feel better about the bypass valve. Or stay out of the rain. If not stick with sri.

Get an injen cai and just use it as a short ram. Dont connect the rest of the tubing is what i did. And u can use a hacksaw and cut the tubing if u want it shorter. Just cut on the filter side and make.sure u sand out the loose pieces .

Ill snap a pic of it. Im at work till 9 am. Do it first thing when i get home. I think its just the 6th gear its not optimized for. Loss in power and richer air fuel levels

Ya I was going to say just get the K&N. I have the AEM intake and I used to use it as a CAI, but I had a lot of problems with it when washing my car. It seemed like no matter how careful I was, the filter still got wet and caused the engine to go into limp mode until it dried. I have mine as an SRI now and it performs almost identical except it gives you more throttle response compared to the CAI which is a lot of fun for daily driving.

Thanks Kenny! That'll all make more sense to me when I get the intake in my hands. Hopefully it'll show up next week and I'll install it.

ive though about that but just not sure if removing that rubber was worth it. also thought about closing the opening into the hood vent that way only the intake recieves the air

removing the rubber definately helps to pull the air through the enlarged slit.when i removed it,i tried to slide a piece of notebook paper in there to test and it went no problem.that told me that air will get in there.removing the rubber alone will not help.that slit has to be enlarged allso so they both work together if your running a k&N setup or something similar that uses the snorkel.
