Unless you are a professional mechanic and know what you are doing, this is not a backyard mechanic type job. Are you planing to buy used parts or new?? Yes, it can be done, but the cost of MAN HOURS OF WORK, down-time. Let alone if you have any problems afterwards, how good of a t-shooter are you, both electrical and mechanical?
Trade, or sell your car, then buy a used, or newer GT... DONE!! Yeap your car payment might go up, but it will cost you less in the long run, and at least you'll still have a warranty!! Lets say you buy a used engine $3000.00, a used transmission $3000.00, a used ECU and wiring harnesses $1000,00, exhaust system $1000.00, plus any little extras $500.00+, having your ECU reprogramed $200.00+, and who knows what else you will need. Time needed to cross-reference which parts stay and which ones will have to go. You could easily be looking at $10,000 in parts alone. Sure you might fine your parts cheaper, but what about special tools that you might need, then if something goes wrong with your install and you have to take it to the dealership for professional help... $,$$$... the labor will go through the roof really quick. But if you still insist, here the place you need to start... the Eclipse Service Manual, great place to start your research !! Not trying to be an ass, but even I know my limitations, and my personal time is worth a lot of money!!http://tearstone.com/eclipsefsm/ps2406intro.pdf

Sorry !!Here I'll give you something worth while to dream about... If you have the money to swap to a 3.8, and all that time on your hands... Hell, drop a built V-8 and put some possy-traction in the rear end!! At least you'll have a beast to be proud of !!
