K&n typhoon cold air intake
SO i had purchased and installed a K7n intake last night. Everything looks to be installed correctly but theres only a problem...it doesnt sound any different than withouth the intake. I was hoping that i twould make at least a noticeable difference in sound, so should i scrap the intake and go for something else or try and put it back on. Id also be willing to post a picture if anyone needs it
Opinions, Suggestions, anything? Id really appreciate some feedback Thanks |

May need to reset the ecu to have the car learn the new intake.
Unplug the battery and pump the brake to discharge all current. Wait a bit and plug it back up. Turn key to "on" but dont start the engine for 10sec (engine should start clicking), then turn it off, wait a bit, turn the engine on, idle for 5min and go for a drive! No WOT for about 20-30 miles, then you can enjoy your intake to it's fullest.

man I had that same kit - it's very subtle and sounds the same at idle. I only heard it sound different when you really get on the gas...

your right it does, even when i get on the gas it doesnt sound really any different, just the slightest change to a slightly deeper tone. I was planing on getting an exhaust but i was hoping the intake would make a sound difference for now. what kind of intake did you switch to?

dc sports is my second choice cause its not too expensive only a couple bucks more than the k&n. does it sound pretty nice without the exhaust?

I notice a good difference with mine, but I also have the magnaflow racing cat and back exhaust. I wouldn't scrap it, its a good intake. I can hear it whistle while giving it gas, and hear it sucking air in all the time. People that have raced me say that all they can hear is my intake when they are beside me......so try getting an exhaust set up, you wont be disappointed.

but if you get headers and a higher flowing exhaust, you should hear and feel a big difference in flow.

ya i was definatley going to get an exhaust, more thann likely an hks hipower axle back.
I was thinking about headers too later on down the road, rre that is but am somewhat hesistant about spending 600 and some dollars for just a little hp gain. |

^it'll sound bad as hell, too, though. I mean, if you are wanting to sound tough and loud, then headers are what does it. not to mention, they are one of the basic bolt on upgrades for improved performance - you'll get more out of your CAI and exhaust w/ headers, as well. the whole CAI - headers - good exhaust set up will give you some 15 - 25 whp at least. if not a little more. those 3 things go together.
then add the spacer kit, water wetter, throttlebody bypass, engine mounts & stiffy, good tires, and watch your HP go up even more. little things will add up and everything will complement each other.

yes i want it to sound fairly loud with a deep tone, but not like a "ricer" as some people would say. Well im either between the obx headers or rre, but ive heard some bad about box. What do you think about them? Ive heard a ton of good thought about rre. You seem to know alot about eclipses and youve helped me alot thus far and i really appreciate it, so thanks. Obx-375 compared to 600 rres isnt a huge difference, but enough for a 17 yr old with a shitty job.
mftk-i see alot of 4gers have injens, but thats out of my price range although im sur eit sounds really nice. thanks though |

^obx are fine for the GT - just crappy for the GS. so no worries there. the obx ones are long tubes and a tad more difficult to install, but don't worry about the sound being ricey at all. you have a CAI, the headers, and a 2.5 - 3" exhaust tube - you'll sound beast.

Man, to be honest, the Typhoon really isn't a great a CAI option for our cars. I don't even think it's really a true 'Cold Air Intake' -- it's more of an SRI. K&N makes some great products, I just don't think intakes are their strong point.
I think you'd be much happier with a 'true' CAI from one of the more traditional companies used in our cars; for example: Fujita (my personal favorite), Injen, AEM, or DC Sports. I have a Fujita, and she roars like a fucking beast. A nice sucking noise, before a vicious growl. Probably the loudest part if my entire intake/exhaust system honestly -- and I have RRE headers and a WORKS hi-power Axle-back exhaust....

thanks alot joeyb, points for you.
HomesickAlien-did you ever have just your intake on your car? was there a noticeable sound difference as soon as you installed it? I was looking at the fujita, but the injen is definatley out of the question for me even though it sounds pretty nice. i cant even tell the K7n is on there as it is now, if you listened to the video i posted earlier. |

^thanks Alyssia. hmmmm...I liked the K&N. It's definitely a SRI, but I liked the sound and performance from it. Liked the heat shield and all. oh well.

from what i heard it was supposed to be good. Heat shield is a mega plus. Im more than likely going to keep it, i trust that once i put an exhaust on it it will be noticeable

I'm not saying it sucks or anything, I just don't think it's the best bet for our cars -- by a long shot. The heat shield is nice though....

Hey man I can set my phone by my car and make a quick sound clip of a couple revs so you could hear it if you'd like?

ya id definatley like to hear it cause if i do decide to change it, which im still undecided about, ill probably go with the fujita for the price and quality. Do you remember what site you got the fujita from, i was looking at autocityimports cause they seem to have the best price.
