So my ghetto-fab mod....works!
So, I don't have foglights, just the covers, so I cut the center out of my plastic foglight cover thing, and....damn. My CAI went from hella badass to holy torque Batman! So now instead of just sucking air up from the bottom, I'm getting ram-air action being blasted straight into my filter, my torque once I get into the Mivec band is just unfair -- I get torque-steer from tapping my gas in third.
I have some sanding to do to clean up the looks just a bit, and I'm using one of those small plastic dash-mount discs that come with GPS's and such and velcro to safely cover the hole when it rains. It honestly works great, much better than I had hoped, doesn't look bad (or good, its basically unnoticable, you'd have to know where to look to even know anything was different -- just glad it doesnt look bad) and I'm pretty freaking happy with how well such a simple seems-too-good-to-be-true 10-minute project turned out. Fucking sweet. Now to eBay to buy a performance chip and I'll finally clear 300HP....

Already got that covered -- did you miss the part about the disc and velcro? It's been three days and it hasn't rained yet but it fits pretty snug so I'm not worried....

Thanks dude, I've been thinking about doing for a while because I figured there was no way it could NOT work. I really don't think I'll see the full benefits until I get a GT throttle body and do my cat delete/or get a 'racing' cat, because I honestly think I'm getting more air than my intake/exhaust can process right now....

How much of a power gain are you experiencing, enough to warrant taking out my fog light?

I've always had poor torque past basically 60-70 MPH, and now I'm getting torque steer when I slam it at 70. The beauty is that the faster you go, the more air you're getting -- theoretically at least. I don't know how it would work for you, but with my setup -- the butt-dyno is flying off the charts. And like I said, I don't think I'll REALLY see the full benefits until I get the GT throttle body and open up my exhaust a little more, because I don't think I can process all the air I'm getting....

Yes my damn iPhone only loaded the first paragraph of your post, that's why I edited my post afterwards. Lucky you got nice weather your way, here we have hit or miss days, right now it's nice but starting this afternoon it's suppose to be raining the rest of the week here.

I'm also going to install a porch-type screen to help keep bugs and other random shit off of my filter. I don't think that will limit the airflow....

Hmm now you have me thinking about fabricating a air duct for my fender, so that I can get the ram air, but also keep my fog lights, I'm thinking these next few days of shitty weather might come in handy now.

It'd be worth it if you could make it work right. Luckily my filter sits RIGHT behind my foglight, so it's just getting absolutely blasted with air.

Haha I dont even know how you could accurately prove the HP gains on the Dyno unless they had a giant fan or wind tunnel of some sort....

Yea same on mine as well, Im thinking something along the lines of cutting out a circle in the fender between the foglight and grille. Then fabricating a fiberglass tunnel straight to the filter. Theoretically it would do the same thing. I'll test this on my oem fender first if all goes well. I'll do the same to my bodykit.

i remeber my CAI thread, this ram air idea was quickly smashed. "wont work till 100+ mph or so", im glad its working for you bud. if i do this mod here in florida ill hydrolock within the hour. torrential lake rains plague us, seriously. having a CAI is risky enough
