Nah, I don't get why people are knocking the 4G69 here. It's really a personal choice.
Can you make a GS faster than a GT? Of COURSE! The 4G69 actually has a TON of potential to it. Is the GT a more powerful starting point? Absolutely, it's a V6. You've got a ton more displacement and 2 more cylinders of power making ability. You're comparing an apple to a pumpkin here. Which will cost more to modify? Depending on which way you wanna go, they're both expensive. It's expensive to modify anything with the 4G because of our limited parts market and people not willing to pony up the dough to be testers and develop new parts for the platform. I would honestly say that the GS has a larger aftermarket for parts. You can share alot of parts with the Lancers and they have some pretty cool setups for them. It really depends on your budget and how far you plan to take the car man. If you plan on making this a project car and tearing into it and doing alot of custom work, go either way, just know that either way will be painstaking and will cost you a pretty penny. I'd personally love to see a GS that pulls in the 12's at the 1/4 mile. That would be amazing. |

Its really easy to make a gt fast with a grand or two
but its also really easy to make a gs fast as hell with 3 or 4 grand. The 4g69 is a sweet platform and it really depends on your budget. Plus you dont have to worry about the extra weight of a v6 or having to pick up a stiffy because your engine torques so much

I'm prejudiced so keep that in mind.......the GT I think is a better starting place if you really plan on taking it far.

all i can say is GS owners say "oh i love my GS too much" until you hear and see a full bolt on GT beast in person, makes your balls retract indeed.

![]() I don't think anyone is trying to discourage anyone from modding full-tilt, GS, GT, or otherwise. But when someone asks the questions, I would hope they are delving for a truthful answer. Doing a custom turbo, or SRS is not for the meek. So like for you Elemenohpee, and some others, you knew exactly what you were about to get into, hard work, knowledge, time, problem solving, and money. You knew your goals and limitations. So if someone asks that question, it's obvious they have limitations. Asking questions on how to do the mod is one thing, but not being sure is another. Once you start this project, if you get halfway though and decide it's above your abilities, that's a ton of wasted time, and money!! Take our average modders, and I'm just using this as an example. Installing a CAI system, or better yet, headers. For most of us it's a breeze, in-fact we highly recommend these mods all the time, yet we are all so tired of hearing questions on CAI's, and/or headers we start flaming people sometimes when they have a problem with the install, or a code after install. Most of these questions or problems are easily resolved, but some people don't understand the theory, or lack the mechanical ability so they still run into problems. On smaller mods like this it's not really a problem, we always talk them through until the problem is resolved. I'm sure all you turbo guys will agree, there is a big difference between installing a custom turbo setup, and a CAI, or header system. One a general mechanic can do, the other is going to take a lot of mechanic ability, knowledge, and money. So as long as you know what your limitations are, what your money, time, and effort is going to buy, the headaches, and the pride you'll feel after it's all finished, I say go for it!!! But if you are asking the question whether... then you haven't done your research yet, you're doubting you mechanical abilities, and it just might be easier and the same price or less, too sell your GS and buy a GT platform. Now I think this is a fair assessment on both sides. Why I want/did a turbo for my GS, or I want more HP, but I doubt my abilities, so I'm selling my GS and going GT.

^Clovis, Love it man and so true. I never really thought about it that way before but it is very true. When people discuss matters like this they often haven't considered what they really want out of a car or they haven't taken the time to really budget and assess themselves to see what they can handle. For me I got the GS because I couldn't afford the insurance at the time for the V6. Trust me I would have loved to have had more power. But know that I have the GS I like it because the cost of the car, upgrades, insurance, and gas. Now I have my sights set on a custom turbo build (Starting in two weeks!!! Can't wait!!!). This is not really because I want to just have a faster car (but it's a perk) But because I have been studying F/I for a year now and have watched other guys go through it and now I am ready to try my hand at it. I have never done anything like this before and I can't wait for the pride I will feel when she starts up, runs, and I hear the first whoosh out of that BOV. I want my car to be fast but more importantly I want it to be unique and I want to be proud of it. That is why I get mad when people say just get a GT... Yeah sure that would be easy and I could totally get more HP but with my budget and capabilities I know the 4-banger is for me... but at the same time I want a 4-banger that will blow people's mind and make them say "You did all that?" That is why I am modding my GS
Tried to give you some love Clovis but apparently I am not nice to enough people.

the gt is for me im a grunt so yeah i dont make much money lol but i also not mechancially inclined to bulid a turbo kit for the car so i think a speedy upgrade getting the gt. plus sense i got the power i will work on the suspension and car audio first before anything else
this is what i have been emailing dealerships around so cal you guys think its legit ? I want to trade my gs 5 speed 89000 miles red exterior black interior for an 06 or newer gt 6speed I don’t really care for color or if it’s the spyder I just want it to have decent miles on it and will not pay no more then 10000 sticker price what do you have to offer ? |

if u want more power right off the bat , do the gt..im a gser but im also a realist and there is no way a gs will beat a gt with the same mods or kits on it.

Those guys said it right. I'm not the best machanic so I chose to have a friend charge me a little..said and done I probably put about $2500 to $3000 in parts and labor the past 2 weeks..I could have went and bought a vette for that and trade in but I love this platform and car. I feel like the lack of aftermarket discourages people and they just give up. If your looking to mod or not your either the gs or gt is gunna be great. Just depends on what direction you go...sorry kinda rambled got out of work and I'm having a drink

^^^^ All good points guys... I really wanted a Vett, but couldn't afford the sticker-shock
, so I got the next best thing... a GT .I actually was going to get a GS, but my sales person was nice enough to talk me into a GT, and he didn't even have to twist my arm .

I had mine next to a gt with similar mods and mine was deff louder and more aggressive sounding. I don't have a cat back or a header, neither did the gt. all the gs mods are cheaper, the car was cheaper the gas is cheaper.. If you want a nice car that has potential but your on a budget gs is the way to go. If money is no issue gt. |
