Motor Mounts -- tips welcome!

So, Ive got Energy Suspension Motor Mounts on the way....thank God. I just took a look under my car to try to familiarize myself with where/what I'd be working with, and my rear motor mount is just about falling apart. I couldn't see THAT well, but it looks like it's got a chunk either missing or badly damaged/torn from the rest of it.

It also looks like I underestimated the difficulty of this job, I did a lot of searching and found some good threads -- including PopsGT's thread -- but I still have a nagging feeling this is going to give me trouble so any tips/help is appreciated ; )

I read it was fairly easy to do but didn't want to risk it so I just took it to a shop. Thank Gawd I did because I don't have a bushing press

You don't have to, so I've been told on several threads here.

I hope not, because if so I'm effed in the A.

roman lujan has a spectacular aura about
Have plenty of extension and a new style of wrenches the ones that ratchs and a cupple of c-clamps and boards to press them mount and bushing Together which is a pain and the back motor mount is really hard to get out I had to lift the motor to the front some what and remove the intake so you can get to the bolt ont the top and side and bottom bolts on the rear mount. Have a good jack and jackstands.

This is cake.

Get a scissor jack or something along those lines. To access the rear motor mount, you have to remove the bolts first from both the front motor mount, and then the rear motor mount. This allows the motor to rock back and forth, still held up by the transmission mount and the passenger side motor mount. I strongly recommend lightly supporting the engine with a block of wood under the oil pan, to keep the engine from rocking too violently.

The idea to access the back mount is to use the scissor jack to carefully jack the motor toward the front of the car, by putting the scissor jack between the subframe, and a strong spot on the engine/trans. Once the motor is rocked forward as far as it will go (you will be making light contact with the radiator I believe), you will have much more room to carefully remove the rear motor mount pedistal. You will need ratcheting open ended wrenches for sure. Just remember to be VERY careful when jacking the motor, I used several blocks of wood as an insurance policy if the jack shifted. Take you're time, be patient, and it won't be so bad.

The way the car responds is awesome.

Oh and as far as the press.....

You can sledgehammer the piss out of the old bushings to get them out. No fun but effective. If the sledge doesn't work you can do what I did and burn the fucker out with a blowtorch.

As for the new ones, some lube and a nice big slegde and you should be alright.
If you have access to a huge C-Clamp, those work decent as a press as well.

Energy Suspension Bushings And Motor Mounts

read everything in there. I also have some pictures and tips on my build thread if you want more. 3rd or 4th page I think. just use the link in the parts list in the first post.

Thanks buddy.

I've read this thread about five tines and think it will probably be my guiding light throughout the install.

I also read your thread which had sine good info as well.

I'll keep you guys posted when I start the install and any problems I run into.

Thanks dudes....

When all else fails, the service manual usually takes the fear out of the job .

Power Plant Mount: ENGINE ROLL STOPPER AND CENTERMEMBER Page 32-9
http://tearstone.com/eclipsefsm/2006...0004700-32.pdf

The front mount is very easy, the rear is a little more of a pain but not that hard. Total job should take about 2 to 4 hours depending on tools and abilities.

Once you have the mount/s out, remove the old rubber mount material. Saw through the inner ring carefully as not to cut into the outer mounting ring. Pry the old mounting ring out. Lube both mounting surface and new mount with some polyuetane grease, place mount on the floor and press new mount in with the palm of your hand. Reinstall mount according to service manual. Don't forget to use a torque wrench!! these parts are under a lot of stress and we don't want bolts coming loose and brakets cracking, or over-torquing bolts and them snapping off under stress!!

A little how to by RRE, and NO, you don't need a hyd press to install the new mounts.
RRE's 4G 2006 Eclipse Energy Suspension Motor Mount Installation Information

Sorry I'm late to chime in, you probably have the job done all ready.

So let me get this straight before i go ordering stuff that I can't use or don't need, the Energy Suspension Motor Mounts fit the GS? I want to order them, short shifter, and shifter stabilizer bushings. I can get it done all at the some time.
