When all the snow clears up here in Canada I'm going to swap out the stock exhaust for a cat back. I've got an 06 eclipse gt and I'm thinking about purchasing the HKS or Magnaflow one so far. I read on the forum somewhere that It's very beneficial to remove the front two cats and leave the last cat in place???? [I THINK]. I just want to know if the effort of removing the front two cats turns into a fairly noticeable difference since Mitsubishi decided to put 3 freakin cats on the car... I can't remember where this was so if someone could give me advice, steer me in the right direction, or the link that would be great.

The ONLY way to remove the 2 main cats is to get headers!!! You gain 15-25whp, sounds a lot better, and you WILL notice the difference...
There are ways to run code-free, but even when the light comes on its not a big deal... A cheap OBD-II code reader will take care of that... If you dont have emission testing to worry about, 3rd cat can be removed as well... |

ya the ses light is easy to remove either with spacers or wutever. just get headers it will also b much better quality than cutting out the cats and welding section pipe or something

^I had the long tubes w/ 18mm spark plug defoulers for spacers and they ran code free - perfect. sounded beastly and performed like a monster. just gotta find the right spacer set-up/config that will work for your car. There is a chance (albeit small) that you won't even need them. if you get the shorties, it's even easier to combat the codes, I do believe.

My P0421/0431 pop up once every 2-3 tanks... Thats because i'm too lazy to go back and mess with the spacers

I'm thinking about getting the OBX Longtubes because they seem to give the same power as both the RRE and Ripp[which I don't think they make anymore] and they seem to be the best bang for your buck. There's a set for 380 on ebay should I jump on them? From what I've read you have to make your O2 sensors longer which isn't a big deal. Is this all? Give me your imput? Just seems like $450 and change with shipping compared to $700[RRE] and 1150[RIPP] with shipping for the same power numbers one would be crazy not to go with the OBX.

There is different strokes for different folks and if you wanna go for the OBX then I give you the ![]() However, its been said you gain more top end with the LT headers, but lose some bottom end torque. With the RRE shorties you won't get as much at the top end as the LT headers but you'll gain at the lower end tremendously. If you're staying N/A you'll need as much bottom end torque as your money can buy. When it comes down to it, torque gets you there, horsepower keeps you there. I could be completely happy with an engine that makes 400 lb/ft of torque and only 250 HP. |

Thanks for the opinion. Sorry to get off topic but how big of a shot of Nitrous are you throwing to your eclipse? I used to run a 125 shot on my 77 Camaro before I stepped up to a procharger set up.

^I would not run anything higher then a 75 shot untuned w/ no internal upgrades. if you do 100 you'll be pushing the threshold. someone else correct me if I am wrong. you could try a 100 shot tuned on a dyno but I still think you'd be playing with fire...

Rre headers are 450. I checked today. I tried to get my wife to give in for the underdrive pulley next week. No such luck. 5% Window tint it is...
Yes. Torque is where to be. Imagine pulling off the line with an cvcc si in tow, entirely bewildered. After you buy the shorties, an underdrive pulley and my fibre-hatch n hood of course (to drop 300lbs). the ses code, obdII code reader 60$...or go to autozone theyll let you use theirs for free. |

If you don't care about it, then no, but I would space them anyways. Never know, you might get it right the first time up.
