Turbo got replaced in April 2011 and now it starting to smoke again. I will go back to RRE but MikeW says another turbo might last long because MIVEC's high oil pressure that causes the seals to leak. So I am thinking of taking out the turbo kit and going nitrous with headers, tuned but I am affraid it will not produce the same numbers.
What you guys think? Keep it or go nitrous. |

I'm not a fan of nos. Plus it's not something one would be able to or want to use all the time. A turbo could be.
Also there's no way they can just putt different seals on your turbo? |

seems like it should b ab easy issue to fix with upgraded seals or something ?? but a different seal may cause drag

I don't see how it could produce the same numbers. certainly not on a consistent basis. maybe you should look into coated/badass gaskets like the ones TWilson is going with/using for his build. Look at ways to seal the set-up as you go with a new turbo?
To me, nothing sounds like a BOV. End of story.

I am suppose to go to RRE whenever I can so MikeW can see it and give me options. Maybe the line is too restricted and needs to be bigger but im no professional. He will give me options. Currently the car is boosting 3.5-4 PSI making around 240whp. Before I was in the high 200's whp at 10.5 PSI. I just know I will miss and regret getting rid of the turbo if I do. I will keep you all posted. I haven't heard of seal kits for turbo's but I will bring that up. Some people told me to use thicker oil 20w and use sealants for those seals but im not sure about that yet.

how well is ur crankcase venting ?? if not vented well enough that could add just enough extra pressure to cause this issue. . . idk just tossing ideas out there

Well, I'm not fully sure of the oil pressure that MIVEC runs at, but on the 300ZX twin turbo, I have an oil pressure gauge and it peaks at over 100 psi and I have no problems with blowing oil seals.
Are you using stainless oil lines with a free flowing return line to the pan or is your return line restricted in any way? I know many cars just tap the pan to return oil so it flows as freely as possible, just lubricating the bearings and seals enough to run and not create a huge pressure area inside the turbo itself. |

I would suggest you check your oil pressure and bounce it off of the factory specs as your Mi-VEC operates on strict oil pressure requirements. Your oil lines to the turbo may also be too small or the return line. Have you considered porting and polishing for taking better advantage of your forced induction? After you find out what's causing the increase in oil pressure you can check out having a port job done to increase the power without having to keep bumping up the boost.

Or you could try one of the Evo X 16g turbos. They came off of a MIVEC engine therefore already have to deal with the high oil pressure.
Worth a try...

Stay with the turbo. Can't you put a pressure regulator or restrictor to reduce the oil pressure to the turbo.
